Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Dablink For the type of composition see Concertino composition . A concertino is the smaller group of instruments in a concerto grosso . This is opposed to the ripieno which is the larger group contrasting with the concertino. Though the concertino is the smaller of the two groups, its material is generally more virtuosic than that of the ripieno. Further, the concertino does not share thematic material with the ripieno, but presents unique ideas. This contrast of small group to large group and one thematic group against another is very characteristic of Baroque ideology similar to terraced dynamics where the idea is significant contrast. It is an extremely taxing work for natural horn or French horn valve horn and small orchestra. It requires, among other feats, that the player produce what is in effect a four note chord using the interplay between humming and the sound from the instrument, a technique known as multiphonics . The work is widely recorded and performed, appearing in the repertoire of well known horn players including Hermann Baumann musician Hermann Baumann , Barry Tuckwell and David Pyatt . It was originally written for the natural horn , and the authentic performance movement still sees it played on this instrument, notably by Anthony Halstead with the Hanover Band . 1. Timbre composition

orphan date February 2012 Unreferenced date December 2009 Timbre composition is the art of creating new timbre s. It is often performed electronically, either by combining sinewaves additive synthesis or by filtering out harmonics from more complex waves subtractive synthesis . Timbre composition is also significant for players of the electric guitar . The guitarist s relative proximity to his or her amplifier alters the sound produced. The sound can be modified further via Equalization equalizers , audio filter filters , and various effects pedals . Timbre composition with acoustic instruments is usually very subtle. Minute altercations in performance change the sound produced by the instrument. Percussionists use specific sticks and mallets to yield desired timbres. Players of wind instruments alter the tone simply by changing the pressure of their lips. One could argue that the act of choosing which instrument to play or write for is in itself timbre composition. Timbre composition is used in vocal techniques such as Overtone singing throat singing where the main focus of the music is timbre as opposed to pitch. Music that has been composed solely using the art of Timbre composition is called Timbre centered music.
