The ERA had seemed a noncontroversial effort to provide legal equality when it easily passed Congress in 1972 and quickly was ratified by 28 of the necessary 38 states. Schlafly denounced it as tilting the playing field against the traditional housewife in a power grab by anti family feminists on the left. She warned it would mean women would be drafted in the Army on the same basis as men. Through her Eagle Forum she organized state by state to block further ratification, and to have states rescind their ratification. Congress extended the time needed, and a movement among feminists tried to boycott tourist cities in states that had not ratified such as Chicago and New Orleans . It was to no avail. 1. Conservatism (belief revision)

In cognitive psychology and decision science , conservatism or conservatism bias is a cognitive bias bias in human information processing. This bias describes human belief revision in which persons over weight the prior distribution base rate and under weigh new statistical sample sample evidence when compared to Bayesian belief revision. According to the theory, opinion change is very orderly, and usually proportional to the numbers of Bayes s Theorem but it is insufficient in amount . ref name edwards1 In other words, persons update their prior beliefs as new evidence becomes observed, but they do so more slowly than they would if they used Bayes s theorem. This bias was discussed by Ward Edwards in 1968, who reported on experiments like the following one blockquote This bookbag contains 1000 poker chips. I started out with two such bags, one containing 700 red and 300 blue chips, the other containing 300 red and 700 blue. ... Now, you sample, randomly, with replacement after each chip. In 12 samples, you get 8 reds and 4 blues. ... what is the probability that this is the predominantly red bag? blockquote Most subjects chose an answer around .7. The correct answer according to Bayes Theorem is closer to .97. Edwards suggested that people updated beliefs conservatively, in accordance with Bayes s Theorem more slowly. They updated from .5 incorrectly according to an observed bias in several experiments. ref name edwards1 See also Base rate neglect References reflist ref name edwards1 Edwards, Ward. The new conservatism movement in China was in general supportive of the current politics of the People s Republic of China government , while at the same time being opposed to aspects of the government which advocated the notion of revolution. However, unlike the official ideology, Chinese new conservatism was neutral on the validity of Marxism and skeptical toward Mao Zedong , founder and long time leader of the People s Republic of China. Seen from a Chinese new conservative perspective, the Great Leap Forward , the Cultural Revolution , and the Tiananmen Protests of 1989 were all in error in that they attempted to change society through revolutionary means.
