ConstantineI ref Also Costantino , Gosantine , Goantine , or Gantine . ref was the giudice of Cagliari . He was the son of the giudice Orzocco Torchitorio and giudicessa Vera. In the eleventh century, the throne of Cagliari traditionally passed between the houses of Torchitorio de Ugunale and Salusio de Lacon . Constantine took the name Salusio II de Lacon upon his succession, in an attempt to unite the families. He appears in contemporary charters as rex et iudex Caralitanus King and Judge of Cagliari. On 30 June 1089, Constantine confirmed that the monastery of Saint Victor de Marseille Saint Victor in Marseille possessed the Sardinian monasteries of San Giorgio di Decimo and San Genesio di Uta . Such confirmations of monastic privileges were commonly associated with accessions at the time and this seems to indicate that Constantine was new to the throne in 1089, fixing the date of his succession to in or shortly before that year. The bishops and giudici of Cagliari had attained a high level of autonomy and isolation in the past century before Constantine s accession and this prompted papal action, a side action of the Gregorian reform . Constantine began to take Cagliari out of its isolation, banking on Benedictine monasticism to reform his country economically, technologically, and ecclesiastically. In accord with the pope s wishes, he put Cagliari under the authority of Lambert, Archbishop of Pisa . Constantine ardently supported the Church and vowed to uphold its rights and abandon the ways of his forefathers concubinage, incest, and murder. unreferenced date June 2008 Catholicos ConstantineI was the Catholicos of the Armenian Apostolic Church between 1221 and 1267. A native of Barzrberd, he was said to have come to office not by nobility or riches but by his piety. He officiated at the forced wedding of Queen Zabel to Hetoum I which made them joint Armenian Cilician King and Queen. In 1259 Constantine visited the Mongol warlord Hulegu who had conquered Mesopotamia and blessed him. This was part of an alliance between Cilician Armenia and the expanding Mongol Empire. Hulegu is said to have been sympathetic to Christians, having been the son of one, and did not harm them during his campaigns. The last years of Constantine s reign were very difficult ones. The Mamlukes of Egypt declared war on Cilician Armenia and invaded the country in 1266. The chronicler Vardan Areweltsi wrote that Constantine suffered greatly due to seeing his country ravaged and it caused his health to decline. Especially grievous was the Battle of Mari in which the king s sons, who had been nurtured by the Catholicos, his heir was captured and his other young son was killed. Chronicler Vardan wrote a beautiful dedication in memory of the Catholicos, who died the following year, saying He was the sharer of grief and the fellow mourner to many in our sinful and anger filled age. In this time of pain and sobbing he bore it all himself and made things more mild as he was able, generously and unsparingly giving encouragement, advice, and treasure. start box succession box before John VI the Affluent title List of Armenian Catholicoi of Cilicia Catholicoi of the Holy See of Cilicia years 1221&ndash 1267 after Jacob I the Learned end box DEFAULTSORT Constantine 01 Of Cilicia Category Catholicoi of Cilicia Category Armenian Oriental Orthodox Christians Category 1267 deaths ca Constant I de Bartzrberd fr Constantin Ier Bardzabertsi hy ... more details

ConstantineI ref Also Costantino , Gosantine , Goantine , or Gantine . ref born in the second half of the 11th century was the giudice of Arborea . He was the son of Gonario II of Arborea Gonario II and Elena de Orrubu. The dates of his reign are unknown, but he was probably in power at the turn of the 12th century. It was probably dominated by wars between Genoa and Pisa which lasted from 1118 to 1133. Constantine tightened Aborea s alliance with the Republic of Pisa . His reign followed on the Gregorian reform of the Roman Catholic Church papal church and its major effect on Sardinia . Like his predecessors, Constantine probably paid the annual tribute to the Holy See of 1,100 bezants . He accepted papal and Pisan suzerainty and sponsored the expanding monasticism on the island. Monasticism provided much needed technological and economic improvements, as the monks which immigrated to inhabit the new foundations and the reformed old ones brought with them collections of books and knowledge of more efficient agricultural and construction techniques, as well as connections to the wider Christian world. There is some discrepancy over the foundation of Santa Maria de Bonarcado , but it seems likely that Constantine laid its foundation around the year 1100.
