unreferenced date February 2011 The Book of Nepos is one of the texts of the New Testament apocrypha , written by an Egyptian bishop, Nepos. He was a strict literalist believing the entire Bible is true in a literal sense , and his text, also known as the Refutation of the Allegorisers was aimed at refuting the arguments of those who held that certain sections of the Bible were mere allegory . In particular, the text is aimed at discrediting the position, held by a minority of Christians at the time, that the book of Revelation should be interpreted allegorically rather than literally. Amongst the teachings in the text is the belief that Jesus would come to earth and physically reign as monarch for 1000 years during an age of righteous delight. This belief was regarded as fairly orthodox in the early church e.g. it was held by Irenaeus , and Justin Martyr , however, the later church came to view Revelation as more allegorical. Indeed, Dionysius of Alexandria felt moved to write a text On the Promises against it, although he regarded Nepos highly and attempted to criticize the doctrine without insulting Nepos personally. The Book of Nepos was so popular within the villages around Alexandria that Dionysius went there in person to refute it. In deference to Nepos and the prior orthodoxy of strict literalism, he did so politely, entering a respectful dialogue with those from the village and contesting each of the arguments they took from the Book of Nepos in turn. Publius Metilius Nepos c. 45 118 was a Roman Empire Roman politician during the late 1st century. He was the son of Publius Metilius b. c. 20 . He was Roman consul Consul Suffectus in 91 and was appointed Roman governor Governor of Roman Britain Britannia sometime before the murder of the Emperor Domitian in 96, perhaps 92, 94 or 95, or at least Legatus pro praetore in 98. Probably Metilius Nepos founded the Colonia Roman colonies of Colonia Domitiana Lindensium Lincoln, Lincolnshire Lincoln and Colonia Nervia Glevensium Gloucester . He later became a Frater Arvale in 105 and 118, the year of his death. Robert Cornelius 1809 1893 was an United States American pioneer of photography . Born to a Dutch people Dutch immigrant , Robert Cornelius attended private school as a youth, taking a particular interest in chemistry . In 1831, he began working for his father specializing in silver plating and metal polishing. He became so well renowned for his work, that shortly after, Cornelius was approached by Joseph Saxton to create a silver plate for his daguerreotype of Central High School Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Central High School in Philadelphia . It was this meeting that sparked Cornelius interest in photography. With his own knowledge of chemistry and metallurgy , as well as the help of chemist Paul Beck Goddard , Cornelius attempted to perfect the daguerreotype . Around October 1839, Cornelius took a portrait of himself outside of the family store. The daguerreotype produced shows an off center portrait of a man with crossed arms and tousled hair. This self portrait of Robert Cornelius is one of the first photographs of a human to be produced.
