CrazyQuilt also known as Indian Carpet and Japanese Rug is a solitaire card game using two decks of 52 playing card s each. The game is so called because the reserve resembles the weave s of a carpet or an arrangement of a quilt . The arrangement of the cards on the reserve is also the reason it is rarely seen on computer solitaire packages, most of which have their cards placed vertically. First, one Ace and one King of each suit are taken out to form the foundations. The rest of the cards are shuffled, and 64 cards are dealt into eight rows of eight cards each. The first row should have its first card placed vertically, the second placed horizontally, the third vertically, the fourth horizontally, and so on. The second row should have its first card placed horizontally, its second one vertically and so on. To make this description short, the resulting layout should resemble a chessboard the cards placed on one direction vertically or horizontally represent the darker squares and the cards placed on the other direction symbolize the lighter squares. This reserve is called the quilt. Image CrazyQuilt solitaire .jpg center 500px This is the initial layout in the game of CrazyQuilt. The cards on the quilt with their shorter sides exposed, i.e. cards each with one of its shorter sides not touching another card, are available for play to the foundations or the top of the wastepile. The foundations that start with the Aces are built up by suit while those that start with the Kings are built down also by suit. The stock is dealt one at a time onto the wastepile. The top card of the wastepile can be used to build on the foundations and be built up or down by suit using cards from the quilt. Image Hawaiian Applique Quilt 2.jpg right thumb 200px A Hawaiian quilt. A Hawaiian quilt is a distinctive quilt ing style of the Hawaiian Islands that uses large radial symmetry radially symmetric applique patterns. Motifs often work stylized botanical designs in bold colors on a white background. Hawaiian quilt applique is made from a single cut on folded textile fabric . Quilting stitch textile arts stitch es normally follow the contours of the applique design. History Hawaiian quilting derives from the kapa moe , an indigenous bed cover textile. Kapa was constructed from the inner bark of local trees. Traditional kapa was beaten and felt ed, then dyeing dyed in geometric patterns. Quilting may have begun in the Hawaiian islands with the arrival of missionary missionaries and Western fabrics in the 1820s. The climate of Hawaii is unsuitable for cotton cultivation and kapa is unsuitable for quilting so all Hawaiian quilts are constructed from imported material. The earliest written reference comes from Isabella Bird who visited Hawaii in 1870 and wrote a travelogue Six Months in the Sandwich Islands . Flag quilts Another Hawaiian quilt style incorporates multiple copies of the flag of Hawaii Hawaiian flag and commemorate the state s former independence as a sovereign Kingdom of Hawaii ... Though many believe that the Groves farm is home to the first barn quilt, that is not the case. The first barn quilt was an Ohio Star which was unveiled as part of a community celebration at a nearby herb farm.
