  1. Fear and Loafing

Orphan date February 2009 Fear and Loafing was a newspaper column by Corey Levitan that ran from January 2006 to June 2011 in the Las Vegas Review Journal , Nevada s largest newspaper. In each column Levitan took on a local job, that he was entirely unprepared to handle, for a day and then wrote about his experiences. The column ran in the Features section and quickly became popular among Las Vegas Valley Las Vegas based readers. ref name LVRJ Archives The Idea The idea for the Fear and Loafing column came to Levitan after an awkward journalistic experience Levitan had while writing for the Daily Breeze newspaper in Torrance, Calif. Levitan had been assigned to cover a nearby nudist camp, but found that none of the members were interested in talking to anyone wearing clothes. Levitan said about the experience I was completely awkward and out of my element. After the success of that story, Levitan thought that he could repeat the success of that story in future stories by also placing himself inside his writing in a manner that would provide humor to the reader. Levitan also says that writer George Plimpton s attempt to join the Detroit Lions and the writing Plimpton did about his experience affected his idea for the column. Levitan makes it clear that there is a major contrast between Plimpton and himself Plimpton sought adventure, whereas Levitan is more George Costanza . ref name aol news cite web last Moye first David title Las Vegas Writer Pads Resume With Crazy Jobs url http www.aolnews.com 2010 04 26 las vegas writer pads resume with crazy jobs publisher aol news accessdate 4 March 2012 ref Multimedia Fear and Loafing featured accompanying video sections throughout the running ... of the Fear and Loafing column. 1. Creative Computing

Creative Computing was one of the earliest magazines covering the microcomputer revolution . Published from 1974 until December 1985, Creative Computing covered the whole spectrum of hobbyist home personal computing in a more accessible format than the rather technically oriented BYTE magazine BYTE . The magazine was founded by David H. Ahl , who sold it to Ziff Davis in the early 1980s, but remained as Editor in Chief. Featured writers included Robert Swirsky , David Lubar , and John J. Anderson . The magazine regularly included BASIC source code for utility programs and games, which users could manually enter into their home computers. At the end of its run, Creative Computing was attempting to refocus on business computing as was the trend in most computer magazines of the time , but was not successful at this and ultimately ceased publication. Ted Nelson , known for the invention of hypertext , was briefly the editor. The April, 1980 issue of Creative Computing contained clever parodies of all of the major computer magazines of the time.
