Pedro deMelode Portugal y Vilhena Valladolid , 1734 &ndash Buenos Aires , 15 April 1797 was a Spanish soldier and politician, who sered as viceroy in the Rio de la Plata Biography Pedro deMelo served in many military roles in Spain before moving to America in 1770. He was designated as gobernor when the Viceroyalty of the R o de la Plata was created. He was member of the Real Audiencia and worked for the creation in 1794 of a Royal Counsel with viceroy Nicol s Antonio de Arredondo . He was designated viceroy after the dimission of Arredondo, on 16 March 1795. He kept the main policies of previous viceroys improve the streets of Buenos Aires, or fortified defenses for Montevideo, but he had to face Portuguese incursions on the Banda Oriental. He created laws to deal with the shortage of bread, improved the viceroyal residence, and received ships from the pacific ocean. Pedro deMelo was interested in expanding the colonization towards the coastline of Patagonia , ordering F lix de Azara to design plans for that purpose. However, Pedro deMelo died before being able to futfill them. Pedro deMelo died on 15 April 1797, still being viceoy. Biography Vieira was born in the parish of Muribeca today Jaboat o dos Guararapes in 1658, and began life as a Brazilian backwoodsman. He was the son of Captain Bernardo Vieira deMelo and Maria Camelo deMelo , and grandson of Antonio de Vieira Mello who arrived in Pernambuco , coming from Portugal in 1654, shortly after the Dutch invasion . Vieira entered the military in 1675 and was made a captain general on November 17, 1691. On January 8, 1695, he was appointed Captain General of Rio Grande do Norte, and on September 25, 1709 Sergeant Major of the Third of Palmares, in which position he took an active part in Mascate War War of the peddlers . In November 1710, Vieira was the first to call for the creation of a Republic of Brazil , an act for which he was arrested in Recife in 1712 and shipped to Lisbon with his son, Andrew. He was executed in the Limoeiro prison in 1718. He married Catarina Leitao , daughter of Captain Gon alo Leit o Arnoso . Marcelo Jos deMelo born 23 January 1972 is a Brazil ian artist. He was born in Apucarana , Paran state Paran , and lives and works in Amsterdam , the Netherlands. Naturalised British in 2003 . Marcelo deMelo has been living in Europe since 1996. In Brazil, he worked in the theatre as a professional actor, lighting designer and stage manager. He took part in several productions for Teatro Gua ra , in Curitiba . Since his arrival in Europe he developed a keen interest in mosaic art. From 1998 to 2005, he was based in Edinburgh , Scotland, where he carried out most of his mosaic production.
