File Trilliant cut 195 x 195.PNG thumb right A trilliant cut. A trilliant cut is a type of gemstone cut, which is triangular, as the name suggests. It is sometimes mistakenly called trillion, or trillian. The cut comes in two different variations, with curved and uncurved sides. In addition to side variations, the top surface of the cut also varies. Creation The trilliant cut was introduced by the Asscher brothers in Amsterdam and was later trademarked by the Henry Meyer Diamond Company of New York in 1962. Now that the patent has expired, the term Trilliant Cut is used to refer to all triangular shaped gems, even step cut and cabochon stones. Uncurved The cut displays a very sharp brilliance or fire if the diamond is cut to the correct depth allowing good scintillation . Generally cut with a 1 1 length to width ratio, with of course uncurved edges. This uncurved trilliant cut is usually used for accent gemstones, on either side of a main, larger stone of a ring. Curved This is a softer version of the uncurved version, with three soft points and curved sides. The length to width ratio should still be 1 1, keeping the gemstone proportioned. This cut is unusual, but can be found in pieces as a solitary gem or as an accent gem. A cut bank , also known as a river cliff , is an bank erosion erosion al feature of streams . Cut banks are found in abundance along mature or meandering streams, they are located on the outside of a stream bend, known as a meander . They are shaped much like a small cliff , and are formed by the erosion of soil as the stream collides with the river bank. As opposed to a point bar which is an area of Deposition sediment deposition , a cut bank is an area of erosion . Typically, cut banks are nearly vertical and often expose the roots of nearby plant life. Often, particularly during periods of high rainfall and higher than average water levels, trees and poorly placed buildings can fall into the stream due to mass wasting events. Given enough time, the combination of erosion along cut banks and deposition along point bars can lead to the formation of an oxbow lake . Not only are cut banks steep and unstable, they are also the area of a stream where the water is flowing the fastest and the deepest, making them rather dangerous.
