Cuyahoga is one of only two of Ohio s 88 counties not governed by a three member commission. The council and related government structure were created by means of a charter approved by the county s electorate on November 3, 2009, and became effective January 1, 2011. Council members are elected from the county s eleven districts to four year terms.
