  1. Cyclin-dependent kinase complex

Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 A cyclin dependent kinase complex abbreviated cdkc , also called cyclin CDK is a protein complex formed by the association of cyclin with cyclin dependent kinase . These complexes are able to phosphorylate other compounds under consumption of Adenosine triphosphate ATP , and are thereby involved in the regulation of the cell cycle . Depending on the type of cyclin attached to CDK, it has a different function. These serve as markers in each phase which are integral for the correct sequence of events, as well as facilitating the transition to the next phase. Classes Image Cyclinexpression waehrend Zellzyklus.png thumb 422px Expression of cyclins through the cell cycle . There are three classes of cdkc depending on the phase of the cell cycle. Kinases are part of the larger family of phosphotransferase s. Kinases are not to be confused with phosphorylase s, which carry out phosphorolysis , the breaking of a bond using an inorganic phosphate group or with phosphatase s, which remove phosphate groups. Types One of the largest groups of kinases are protein kinase s, which act on and modify the activity of specific proteins. Kinases are used extensively to transmit signals and control complex processes in cells. More than five hundred different kinases have been identified in humans. Their enormous diversity, as well as their role in signaling, makes them an object of study.
