  1. Panorama Mesdag

Image Mesdag Scheveningen.png thumb 300px Scheveningen village, a small section of the Panorama Mesdag , with fake terrain in the foreground. Panorama Mesdag is a panorama by Hendrik Willem Mesdag . Housed in a purpose built museum in The Hague , the panorama is a cylindrical painting also known as a Cyclorama more than 14 metres high and about 40 metres in diameter 120 metres in circumference . From an observation gallery in the centre of the room the cylindrical perspective creates the illusion that the viewer is on a high sand dune overlooking the sea, beaches and village of Scheveningen in the late 19th century. A foreground of fake terrain around the viewing gallery hides the base of the painting and makes the illusion more convincing. History Mesdag was a notable marine painter of the Hague School in 1880 he was engaged by a Belgian company to paint the panorama, which with the assistance of his wife and many student painters including George Hendrik Breitner Breitner , was completed by 1881. However, the vogue for panoramas was coming to an end, and the company went bankrupt in 1886. Mesdag purchased the panorama and met its losses from his own pocket. The panorama is now the oldest surviving panorama in its original location. Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Image Scoop Light.jpg right thumb 200px Scoop In stage lighting , an ellipsoidal reflector floodlight sometimes known by the acronym ERF which is often pronounced erf , better known as a scoop , is a large, simple stage lighting instrument lighting fixture with a dome like reflector, large high wattage Incandescent light bulb lamp and no Lens optics lens . It consists almost entirely of a lamp in the center of a big curved metal or plastic lined with reflective foil dome that acts as a Reflector photography reflector . The result is a wide, soft edged pool of light good for general lighting. However, since scoop lights do not have a mechanism for cutting down the size of their beam, they are rarely used for more specific lighting needs. Many theaters use scoop lights for worklights, rehearsals, non performance times, and certain performance times. Scoops can be used to mimic the effect of a striplight to illuminate a cyclorama theater cyclorama . They are easy to set up and take down, are relatively inexpensive, typically have long lamp life. When used as worklights, scoop lights frequently don t require the use of the light board to operate. Scoop lights are also used for flooding a stage with downlight, as this requires the least amount of control of the beam. However, fresnel lantern s are more frequently used for this task. Most scoops use a PS52 mogul screw E39 incandescent lamp.
