  1. Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe

Coord 51.651 3.959 display title region GB scale 5000 Update date December 2009 Ysgol Bryn Tawe is a Welsh language comprehensive school based in Penlan , Swansea , southwest Wales . It opened in 2003 to complement Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr and to provide additional capacity following the increased demand for Welsh medium education in the area. Upon its opening, it held only its own fresh intake, taking none of Gwyr s existing pupils. As a result, the school only reached its full complement of years 7 11 ages 11 16 with its fifth intake of September 2007. As of September 2009 it has approximately 800 pupils on roll. It is located in the buildings of the former Penlan Boys School , which itself was merged with Mynyddbach Girls School to become Daniel James Community School . This arrangement was a subject of considerable controversy in the period leading up to Bryn Tawe s inauguration. In September 2008 the new sixth form partnership was opened with Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr and pupils have classes in both schools, transported between sites by minibus. In 2008, the school attained an 84 GCSE pass mark based on 5 GCSEs, grades A C . In 2009 the school attained an 87 GCSE success rate based on 5 or more GCSEs grades A to C.
