  1. Juvenal of Jerusalem

Saint Juvenal Lang el was a bishop of Jerusalem from about 422. In 451, on the see of Jerusalem being recognised as a Patriarchate by the Council of Chalcedon , he became the first Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem Patriarch of Jerusalem , an office he occupied until his death in 458. Juvenal wanted to make Jerusalem into a primary see a Patriarchate Patriarchal see by demotion of the Metropolitan bishop Metropolitan see of Caesarea Palaestina Caesarea and the primary see of Antioch . In 431, he sided with Cyril of Alexandria Saint Cyril against Nestorius at the First Council of Ephesus . He argued that the bishop of Antioch should have taken his doctrine from the apostolic see of Jerusalem , and expected Cyril to assist him in raising Jerusalem at the level of an independent patriarchate. Cyril even wrote a letter to Pope Leo I then archdeacon in Rome complaining about Juvenal s opportunism Leo, Ep. 119 ad Maximum Antiochenum episcopum in PL 54, 1041 46 . Juvenal was one of the leaders of the Second Council of Ephesus . When, later, Dioscorus was tried for violation of canonical law at the Council of Chalcedon , Juvenal voted for his condemnation. Perhaps in exchange for this vote against his old ally, the council gave Juvenal what he had sought recognition of Jerusalem as a patriarchal see, ruling over all of Palestine . When he returned, however, monks who favored Dioscorus went into open revolt against him, and only the Imperial army allowed him to take his position. He is regarded as a saint in parts of the Eastern Orthodox Church , but not in the west. Persondata Metadata see Wikipedia Persondata . 1. Nectarius of Jerusalem

Nectarius of Jerusalem 1605 1680 was Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem from 1660 to 1669. He was born in Crete in 1605, and died about 1680. He was educated by the monks of Sinai Peninsula Sinai where he himself became a monk but when thirty five years of age he studied at Athens with the Neo Aristotelianism Aristotelian Theophilos Corydalleus . About 1660 he was in Constantinople on business connected with his monastery, and on his return to Sinai was chosen abbot. But on his way to Jerusalem to be consecrated he was informed that he had been chosen patriarch of the Holy City, and was consecrated in April, 1661. As early as 1666 he sought to be relieved of his duties and by 1669 Dositheos Notaras had become his successor. He remained in Jerusalem, however, except when driven by the Latin monks for a short time to Sinai. He took part in the Synod of Jerusalem in 1672. In his doctrine of the Eucharist , Nectarius was strictly orthodox, and a zealous opponent of Cyril Lucar and the Calvinism Calvinistic movement. Among the writings of Nectarius the most important is his refutation of the theses of a certain Peter regarding the papal supremacy ed. Dositheus, with a life of Nectarius, Jassy, 1682 . He is still better known by his recommendation of the Confessio orthodoxa of Peter Mogilas , 1643. A letter to the monks of Sinai is also contained in E. 1. Cyril of Constantinople

File Cyril of Constantinople.jpeg thumb By Zurbaran Saint Cyril of Constantinople d. c. 1235 was a Superior general General of the Carmelites and prior of the hermits on Mount Carmel for three years. He is reputed to have had the gift of prophet prophecy . One of the pseudo prophecies, given out towards the end of the thirteenth century by the Fraticelli Franciscan Spirituals , and attributed to Cyril of Jerusalem , became known to Guido de Perpignan and other Carmelites at Paris , who ascribed it to their former general, now considered a saint and a doctor of the Church , his Calendar of saints feast day being introduced in 1399. In the Breviary lessons he was also confused with Cyril of Alexandria . When the mistake was discovered 1430, but the confusion was maintained in the Venice Breviary, 1542 , his title of doctor was justified by attributing to him a work, of which no trace exists, on the procession of the Holy Spirit Holy Ghost . The so called Cyrillic prophecy or angelic oracle Divinum oraculum S. Cyrillo Carmelitae Constantinopolitano solemni legatione angeli missum ed. Phllippus a SS. Trinitate, Lyons, 1663 , so called because it is supposed to have been brought by an angel while Cyril was saying Mass liturgy Mass , is a lengthy document of eleven chapters in incomprehensible language, with a commentary falsely ascribed to Abbot Joachim. It is first mentioned by Arnaldus de Villa Nova Arnold of Villanova , c. 1295 Telesphorus of Cosenza applied it to the Western Schism and treated it as an utterance of the Holy Ghost. Another writing erroneously attributed to Cyril is De processu sui Ordinis , by a contemporary, probably a French author edited by Daniel a Virgine Mari in Speculum Carmelitarum Antwerp, 1680 , I, 75.
