It usually lies next to the cystic artery . It is of variable length. It contains Spiral valves of Heister spiral valves of Heister, which do not provide much resistance to the flow of bile. Function Bile can flow in both directions between the gallbladder and the common hepatic duct and the common bile duct. In this way, bile is stored in the gallbladder in between meal times. The hormone cholecystokinin , when stimulated by a fatty meal, promotes bile secretion by increased production of hepatic bile, contraction of the gall bladder, and relaxation of the Sphincter of Oddi . Clinical significance Gallstone s can enter and obstruct the cystic duct, preventing the flow of bile. The increased pressure in the gallbladder leads to swelling and pain. This pain is sometimes referred to as a gallbladder attack because of its sudden onset. During a cholecystectomy , the cystic duct is clipped two or three times and a cut is made between the clips, freeing the gallbladder to be taken out. In this configuration, the intake is in the upper rear center of the aircraft, just below the Vertical stabilizer stabilizer , while the exhaust and engine is at the rear of the aircraft. The S duct is located in the tail, or empennage , of the aircraft. The shape of the S duct is distinctive and easily recognized, and was used in several aircraft, beginning in 1962 with the Hawker Siddeley Trident . Currently, the Dassault Falcon 7X and Dassault Falcon 900 business jets, and the Tupolev Tu 154M narrow body airliner in limited production, are the only aircraft in production that use the S duct design. The opening of the nasolacrimal duct into the inferior nasal meatus is partially covered by a mucosal fold valve of Hasner or plica lacrimalis . Excess tears flow through nasolacrimal duct which drains into the inferior nasal meatus . This is the reason the nose starts to run when a person is crying or has watery eyes from an allergy, and why one can sometimes taste eye drops. Like the lacrimal sac, the duct is lined by stratified columnar epithelium containing mucus secreting goblet cells , and is surrounded by connective tissue. Perilymph is continuous with cerebrospinal fluid CSF in the subarachnoid space. CSF pressure abnormalities do not generally have clinical impact on the inner ear which is explained physically by the bore diameter of the perilymphatic duct and its length. Development The development of the pronephric duct is a part of the development of the urinary and reproductive organs . In the outer part of the intermediate mesoderm , immediately under the ectoderm, in the region from the fifth cervical segment to the third thoracic segment , a series of short evaginations from each segment grows dorsally and extends caudally , fusing successively from before backward to form the pronephric duct. This continues to grow caudalward until it opens into the ventral part of the cloaca beyond the pronephros it is termed the Wolffian duct . Thus, the Wolffian duct is what remains of the pronephric duct after the atrophy of the pronephros.
