Image Dun Laoghaire Town Hall.jpg thumb right 280px D n Laoghaire Town Hall The Corporation of D n Laoghaire was a local authority in County Dublin , in the Republic of Ireland from 1930 to 1994, covering the municipal borough of D n Laoghaire . D n Laoghaire was a county borough in all but name, as the Dublin County Council had no jurisdiction in the area. The corporation was formed by Section 3 of the Local Government Act Dublin 1930 from the four Urban Districts of D n Laoghaire until 1920 Kingstown , Blackrock, Dublin Blackrock , Dalkey , and Killiney & Ballybrack . The merged area was named the Borough of D n Laoghaire. Plans to merge these coastal authorities were first made in 1903, a bill to effect this was being drawn up in 1924, but this was abandoned when the Government of Ireland proposed their own legislation to reorganise local government in County Dublin . In 1994 the Corporation was merged with part of the Dublin County Council to form the D n Laoghaire Rathdown administrative county. The D n Laoghaire Vocational Education Committee , originally created for the Borough of D n Laoghaire , remains in existence. Caoineadh Airt U Laoghaire or the Lament for Art Laoghaire is an Irish Language Irish Keening keen , or dirge written by his wife Eibhl n Dubh N Chonaill . It has been described as the greatest poem written in either Ireland or Britain during the eighteenth century. ref cite book title Irish Classics last Kiberd first Declan authorlink coauthors year 2000 publisher Granta Books location isbn page pages url accessdate ref The late eighteenth century poem is one of the greatest laments ever written, and one of the greatest love poems in the Irish language . Eibhl n composed it on the subject of the death of her husband Art on May 4, 1773. It details the murder at Carraig an Ime, County Cork , of Art, at the hands of the British official Abraham Morris, and the aftermath. It is one of the key texts in the corpus of Irish oral literature . The poem was composed ex tempore and follows the rhythmic and societal conventions associated with keening and the traditional Irish wake ceremony wake respectively. The caoineadh is divided into five parts composed in the main over the dead body of her husband at the time of the wake and later when Art was re interred in Kilcrea. Parts of the caoineadh take the form of a verbal duel between Eibhl n and Art s sister. The acrimonious dialogue between the two women shows the disharmony between their two prominent families. Thomas Kinsella made an English verse translation which was published in An Duanaire Poems of the Dispossessed an anthology ... Ui Laoghaire to be sung, most famously by the Cor Ban Chuil Aodha .
