James Taylor ca. 1794 spaced ndash February 4, 1856 was a businessman and political figure in New Brunswick . He represented York in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1833 to 1856. He was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick Fredericton , the son of James Taylor who was a native of Scotland . With his brothers William Taylord. 1834 William and John F., he entered the family business in timber, ship building and construction. In 1829, he married Nancy Hatfield, whose sister had married his brother William. Taylor was a director of the Nashwaak Mill and Manufacturing Company, later serving as president of its milling operations. He also was a founder of the Central Bank of New Brunswick and a director of the Fredericton branch of the Bank of British North America. Taylor also helped found the Fredericton Hotel and Stage Coach Company. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the New Brunswick assembly in 1830, but was declared elected in 1833 after he appealed the results of the by election held in 1832 following the death of John Dow. Taylor served as paymaster and captain in the county militia. In 1840, he was named a justice of the peace and, in 1850, a customs controller. Taylor died in office in Fredericton. John George Taylor Spink October 6, 1888 December 7, 1962 was the publisher of The Sporting News from 1914 to 1962. Born in St. Louis, Missouri , he inherited the newspaper from his father and ran it from April 22, 1914 until his death. During his tenure, Spink expanded the paper s coverage from just baseball to include other sports, particularly boxing and football. Following his death, the Baseball Writers Association of America inaugurated the J. G. Taylor Spink Award in his honor, awarded annually at the induction ceremonies of the Baseball Hall of Fame Spink was the first recipient. Biography Edwin J. Taylor was born in 1869 in Waddington, New York Waddington , New York , where he grew up and was educated in the public schools. He graduated from St. Lawrence University in Canton village , New York Canton , New York in 1890, and moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota Grand Forks later that year where he engaged in education. He was elected the Superintendent of Public Schools for his county in 1892, and won the office of North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1910.
