DIN 41612 is a DIN standard for electrical connectors that are widely used in rack based electrical systems. Standardisation of the connectors is a pre requisite for open systems, where users expect components from different suppliers to operate together. The mostly widely known use of DIN 41612 connectors is in the VMEbus system. They were also used by NuBus . The standard has subsequently been upgraded to international standards IEC 60603 2 and EN 60603 2 . Mechanical details The standard describes connectors which may have one, two or three rows of contacts, which are labelled as rows a, b and c. Two row connectors may use rows a b or rows a c. The connectors may have 16 or 32 columns, which means that the possible permutations allow 16, 32, 48, 64 or 96 contacts. The rows and columns are on a 0.1 inch 2.54 mm grid pitch. Insertion and removal force are controlled, and three durability grades are available. Image House at Din Llugwy.jpg right thumb 300px House foundations at Din Lligwy hut circle, Anglesey , August 2, 2004 Din Lligwy or Din Llugwy Roundhouse dwelling hut circle is an Romano British culture ancient village site near the east coast of Anglesey , close to the village of Moelfre , North Wales . Excavations in 1905 1907 produced hundreds of Roman period pot sherd s of the 3rd and 4th centuries CE, many repaired with iron clamps. Animal bones were found too, some made into tools and one into a musical instrument. The most important economic activity, however, appears to have been iron working, smithing and perhaps smelting. Despite the mainly Roman finds, the origins of the settlement may well go back into the Iron Age and it was probably a small farming community. From excavation, it seems that the round structures were probably houses and the rectangular ones barns or workshops. For a pre Roman Britain Roman site, a great deal remains including the enclosing wall and the foundations of many buildings, many of them with substantial and well made foundations constructed from the local limestone . The outer protective wall is almost intact although much reduced in height. Din Lligwy is situated on a low hill with good views over Anglesey and a reliable source of fresh water nearby. The hill is now overgrown with Sycamore Maple sycamore and Ash tree Ash but it is probable that when it was occupied, the village would have had uninterrupted views all around. It was introduced in the 1980s by Roland Corporation for synchronization of music sequencer s, drum machine s, arpeggiator s and similar devices. The SYNC standard uses the signals clock or tempo and start stop or run stop . The signals are transistor transistor logic TTL compatible. This means the low state is 0 V, the high state is about 5 V. The clock signal 2.51 V, 24ppqn for Roland gear defines the speed of the sequence or drum pattern. The start stop signal defines if the sequence is running start stop 0 V stop, start stop 5 V running . The SYNC standard uses 5 pin DIN connector s, the same as used for MIDI , but uses a different pin out. The term DIN sync does not mean that it is a Deutsches Institut f r Normung DIN standard, only that it uses DIN connectors. In some applications the remaining pins 4 and 5 are even used as tap , fill in or reset and start . But this differs from device to device. To connect two SYNC devices a cable with a 3 or 5 pin plug on each side has to be used. The pins 1, 2 and 3 have to be connected in contrast to MIDI that uses the pins 4, 5 and 2 . A standard MIDI cable is not suitable as pins 1 and 3 may be unconnected. The German DIN Standard DIN 47100 regulated the color coding for the identification of cores in telecommunication cable s. The standard was withdrawn without a replacement in November 1998, but remains in widespread use by cable manufacturers.
