CWSDPMI is a DOS Protected Mode Interface DPMI host written by Charles W Sandmann from 1996 to 2010, currently at r7. It is loosely based upon prior GO32.EXE code used in DJGPP v1. It can provide DPMI 0.90 32 bit services for programs compiled with latest versions of DJGPP etc. compilers. Since r5, it can also be used for programs requiring a DPMI stub in lieu of PMODE DJ. It supports up to 4 GB, virtual memory , and hardware interrupt reflection from real mode to protected mode . Programs compiled with DJGPP v2 require a DPMI host, which is usually CWSDPMI.EXE or CWSDPR0.EXE. In case of CWSDPMI.EXE, the default paging virtual memory file is C CWSDPMI.SWP. It has also run in under 512 kb of RAM on a 386. CWSDPMI editions CWSDSTUB.EXE is a stub loader image for DJGPP which includes CWSDPMI. CWSDPR0.EXE is an alternate version, implemented at request of id Software when writing Quake video game Quake , which runs at ring 0 with virtual memory disabled. It may be used if access to Ring computer security ring 0 features are desired. It currently does not switch stacks on hardware interrupts, so some DJGPP features such as SIGINT POSIX SIGINT and SIGFPE are not supported and will generate a double fault or stack fault error. Developer Charles Sandmann also hoped to eventually supply code for CWSDPMI r7 that allows CWSDPMI to map up to 64GiB memory into the address space upon request. ref http groups.google.com group comp.os.msdos.djgpp browse thread thread bc61b73678d6365e Beta Test CWSDPMI r7 4GB support ref ref http www.bttr software.de forum board entry.php?id 7482 3 GB of RAM hypothetical , CWSDPMI ref References reflist External links http homer.rice.edu sandmann cwsdpmi index.html Official CWSDPMI website Comp eng stub Category DOS extenders Category DOS software Category 1996 software ... more details

Image Skyhook air 1957.jpg thumb right 200px Stratoscope I The Stratoscopes were two balloon borne astronomical telescope s which flew from the 1950s to the 1970s and observed in the Optical spectrum optical and infrared regions of the spectrum. Both were controlled remotely from the ground. Stratoscope I possessed a 12 inch 30.48 cm mirror and was first flown in 1957. It was conceived by Martin Schwarzschild and built by the PerkinElmer Perkin Elmer Corporation . A small secondary mirror focussed the image from the primary into a 35 mm movie camera, which captured the images on film. Schwarzschild used the telescope to study the turbulence and Granule solar physics granulation in the Sun s photosphere . Stratoscope II, a 36 inch 91.4 cm reflecting telescope, flew from 1963 to 1971. The gondola it was mounted on weighed 3.5 tons. It studied planetary Celestial body atmosphere atmosphere s, the atmospheres of red giant stars, and Galaxy galaxies . On early flights of Stratoscope II, photographic film was used, but this was soon replaced by television detectors.
