For the Dacian tribe Burs Dacia Image Roman Empire 125.png thumb right 300px Map of the Roman empire under Hadrian ruled 117 38 AD , showing the location of the Buri in the northern Carpathians mountains The Buri were a Germanic tribe mentioned in the Germania of Tacitus , where they initially close the back of the Marcomanni and Quadi of Bohemia and Moravia . It is said that their speech and customs were like those of the Suebi . Such a statement implies that the Buri had recently come from Suebia, as the Germanic settlers in Bohemia and Moravia were newcomers, having driven out the Celtic Boii and taken their lands. In Tacitus, the Buri are not linked to the Lugii . Ptolemy , however, mentions the Lougoi Bouroi transliterated by the scholars into Latin Lugi Buri dwelling in what is today southern Poland between the Sudetes and the upper Vistula . They are distinct from the Silingi Vandals , who are on the upper Oder . Tacitus and Ptolemy together imply that the Buri may have entered Moravia from Suebia with the Marcomanni and Quadi and then moved into the upper Vistula region, where they allied themselves with the Lugii there. The fate of the Buri seems tied to that of the Danubian tribes, as they joined the Marcomanni inspired invasion of the empire in the 2nd century AD, going against the emperor, Marcus Aurelius Julius Capitolinus , Life of Marcus Aurelius . 1. East Danes

East Dane is an Anglo Saxons Anglo Saxon ethnonym which was used in the epic Beowulf as a kenning for the Geats , the people of G taland without Scania in southern Sweden . It was also used in an Anglo Saxon runic poem describing the first appearance of the god Frey called Ing , see Yngvi Ing w s rest mid E stdenum br gesewen secgum, o he s an e st br ofer w g gew t. w n fter ran. br us Heardingas one h le nemdon. Ing was first amidst the East Danes br so seen, until he went eastward br over the sea. His wagon ran after. br Thus the Heardings named that hero. In Scandinavian mythology Ynglinga saga and Gesta Danorum , the first appearance of Frey was localised to Sweden and Old Uppsala , where he founded the Temple at Uppsala The Ynglinga saga Frey built a great temple at Upsal, made it his chief seat, and gave it all his taxes, his land, and goods. Then began the Upsal domains , which have remained ever since. http www.northvegr.org lore heim 000 02.php Gesta Danorum Also Frey, the regent of the gods, took his abode not far from Upsala, where he exchanged for a ghastly and infamous sin offering the old custom of prayer by sacrifice, which had been used by so many ages and generations. For he paid to the gods abominable offerings, by beginning to slaughter human victims. http sunsite.berkeley.edu OMACL DanishHistory book3.html Since Dane was used as a generic expression for Scandinavian , it can be hypothesized that the name East Dane of the runic poem refers to Scandinavians living east of the Danes proper i.e. Swedes and Geats .
