lede date September 2011 Old Norse language map Danish language Old Norse topics The Danish language develops during the Middle Ages out of the Old East Norse , the common predecessor of Danish and Swedish language Swedish , itself a late form of common Old Norse . The history of Danish can by convention be divided into Old Danish Old East Norse , 9th to 11th centuries Middle Danish, 12th to 15th centuries Modern Danish, 16th century to present. Old Danish main Old East Norse Old East Norse is in Sweden called Runic Swedish and in Denmark Runic Danish , but until the 12th century, the dialect was the same in the two countries. The dialects are called runic because the main body of text appears in the runic alphabet . Unlike Proto Norse language Proto Norse , which was written with the Elder Futhark alphabet, Old Norse was written with the Younger Futhark alphabet, which only had 16 letters. Due to the limited number of runes, some runes were used for a range of phoneme s, such as the rune for the vowel u which was also used for the vowels o , and y , and the rune for i which was also used for e . Unreferenced date December 2007 Infobox Horse name Danish Warmblood status image Browsing hay .jpg image caption Danish warmblood altname Dansk Varmblod country Denmark group1 std1 features The Danish Warmblood Dansk Varmblod is the modern sport horse breed of Denmark . Initially established in the mid 20th century, the breed was developed by crossing native Danish Mare horse mares with elite Stallion horse stallions from established European bloodlines . History Of The Breed The Danish Warmblood Breed registry registry was established in mid 20th century. The registry oversees the registration of Danish warmblood foal s and approves stallions for breeding. As with most warmblood studbook s, only stallions who meet certain standards are permitted to breed. Foals with approved pedigree animal pedigree s may receive a brand depicting a crown over a wave. One of the more recent of the selectively bred European competition horses is the Danish Warmblood, whose stud book wasn t opened until the 1960s. In a relatively short space of time, however, Danish breeders have succeeded in producing a competition horse they claim to be of superior quality and more versatility than many of the European breeds. Present day While still a young breed, Danish warmbloods are currently represented at international competitions in both dressage and show jumping . The Danish Warmblood is still an uncommon breed in the United States however in 2001 a North American Danish Warmblood Association was formed to promote the breed in the U.S. Characteristics The best Danish horses have a Thoroughbred outline that is combined with substance, strength, and good legs. They are courageous and spirited, have excellent temperaments, and good free action. They are used as dressage horses and make first class performers in cross country. Danish horses also make great show jumpers, as well as under saddle. They can be all solid colors and stand anywhere from 16.2 to 17 hands. Breeding The Danish Warmblood ...   more details
