  1. The Dead Sea Scrolls Deception

The Dead Sea Scrolls Deception 1991, ISBN 0 671 73454 7 is a book of non fiction by authors Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh author Richard Leigh . Rejecting the established, peer reviewed consensus that the Dead Sea scrolls were the work of a marginal Jewish apocalyptic movement, and following primarily the thesis of Robert Eisenman , the authors argued that the Scrolls were the work of Jewish zealots who had much in common with, and may have been identical to, the early followers of Jesus led by his brother James the Just . This provides a different version of the history of early Christianity and challenges the divinity of Jesus, shakes the fundamental aspects of modern day Christianity. Citation needed date March 2011 Leigh and Baigent describe how the scrolls were kept under wraps for decades by a team dominated by Catholic scholars under the leadership of a Dominican friar, Roland de Vaux . They contend that the preconceptions of de Vaux and other members of the team led them to ignore evidence of the probable 1st century provenance of many of the scrolls, and instead, to consign these scrolls safely to the distant past. Criticism The book was severely criticised by Hershel Shanks of Biblical Archaeology Review . ref cite journal last1 Shanks first1 Hershel year 1991 title Is the Vatican Suppressing the Dead Sea Scrolls? journal Biblical Archaeology Review publisher volume 17 issue 6 pages url http members.bib arch.org search.asp?PubID BSBA&Volume 17&Issue 6&ArticleID 11&UserID 0& doi ref Joseph Fitzmyer has described it as consisting largely of a pattern of errors and misinformed statements . ref cite book title The Dead Sea scrolls and Christian origins first Joseph A. last Fitzmyer publisher Wm. 1. Dead Sea Transform

The Dead Sea Transform DST fault system , also sometimes referred to as the Dead Sea Rift , is a geologic fault which runs from the Maras Triple Junction a junction with the East Anatolian Fault in southeastern Turkey to the northern end of the Red Sea Rift just offshore of the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula . It runs along the boundary of two tectonic plates, the African Plate on the west and the Arabian Plate on the east. It is a left lateral transform fault , signifying the relative motions of the two plates. Both plates are moving in a general north northeast direction, but the Arabian Plate is moving faster, resulting in the observed left lateral motions along the fault of approximately 107 km. A component of extension is also present, which has contributed to the depression, or pull apart basin in which the Dead Sea is situated. 1. Carbon dating the Dead Sea Scrolls

There were two series of Radiocarbon dating carbon dating tests performed on the Dead Sea Scrolls , one series by the AMS Accelerator Mass Spectrometry lab of the ETH Zurich Zurich Institute of Technology in 1990 and a second by the AMS Facility at the University of Arizona in Tucson in 1994. There was also a historical test of a piece of linen performed in 1950 by Willard Libby , the inventor of the dating method. 14C Test results The following table shows all the Qumran related samples that were tested by Zurich Z , Tucson T and Libby L . The column headed 14C Age provides a raw age before 1950 for each sample tested. This represents the ideal date for the amount of 14C measured for the sample. However, as there is fluctuation from year to year as to the quantity of 14 absorbed by all life, the figure needs to be calibrated based on the known fluctuation. This calibrated range of dates is represented in the last column, given with a 2 sigma error rating, which means at 95 confidence. Although the tests included documents which were not from Qumran, with the exception of the Wadi ed Daliyeh deed these will not be listed below. Introduction The film followed the extended family of The General , played by Barker, as they went on an eventful seaside holiday. It was set on the Dorset coast in Tiddly Cove , actually the coast between Bournemouth and Swanage . Ronnie Barker was a keen collector of saucy seaside postcard s, and published several books of them. The humour of By the Sea was very much based on the colourful style of these. The film is notable for being completely free of speech, with the score by Ronnie Hazlehurst and various sound effects in their place. The humour is instead entirely visual, and relies on comic stereotypes the old randy general, the busty girl, the cheeky schoolboy, etc. . It was the follow up to another Two Ronnies film, The Picnic , featuring the same characters. Before it was shown, the BBC commissioned producer Alan J.W. Bell, the director of Last of the Summer Wine , to improve the film. No scenes were re shot, but he re structured the film and commissioned Ronnie Hazlehurst to write an original music score. To add comic effect, the film was also slightly speeded up. The 55 minute film was shown on BBC 1 at Easter 1982, but has ... currently hold the rights to the Two Ronnies library. It won the Booker Prize in 1978. Plot summary The Sea, the Sea is a tale of the strange obsessions that haunt a self satisfied playwright and theatre director director as he begins to write his memoirs . Played out against a vividly rendered landscape and filled with allusions to mythology myth and magic paranormal magic , Murdoch s novel exposes the jumble of motivations that drive her characters the human vanity, jealousy, and lack of compassion behind the disguises they present to the world. Charles Arrowby, its central figure, decides to withdraw from the world and dwell in seclusion in a house by the sea. Whilst there, by an extraordinary coincidence he encounters his first love, Mary Hartley Fitch, whom he has not seen since his love affair with her as an adolescent. Although she is almost unrecognisable in old age, and totally outside his theatrical world, he becomes obsessed by her, idealizing his former relationship with her and attempting to persuade her to elope with him. His inability to recognise the egotism and selfishness of his own romantic ideals is at the heart of the novel. After the farcical and abortive ... I was in love with my own youth...
