  1. Decadentism

Decadentism also called Decadentismo was an Italian artistic style based mainly on the Decadent movement in the arts in France and England around the end of the 19th century. The main authors associated with decadentism were Antonio Fogazzaro , Italo Svevo , Giovanni Pascoli and Gabriele D Annunzio . Although differing stylistically, they championed idiosyncrasy and irrationality against scientific rationalism. A later critic, Walter Binni , analyzed the style favorably in his 1936 book La poetica del decantismo and distinguished between moral and aesthetic decadence. ref cite journal last Drake first Richard year 1982 title Decadence, Decadentism, and Decadent Romanticism in Italy Toward a Theory of D cadence journal Journal of Contemporary History volume 17 pages 69 92 doi 10.1177 002200948201700104 ref Another scholar of decadentism was Norberto Bobbio , noted especially for his 1945 book, La filosofia del decadentismo . 1. James Brusseau

BLP sources date August 2009 bot yes James Brusseau is a philosopher specializing in contemporary Continental Philosophy . Brusseau born 1964 took a Ph.D. in Philosophy under the direction of Alphonso Lingis . In 1994 he joined the faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the UNAM Mexican National University in Mexico City where he teaches graduate courses in Philosophy and Comparative Literature. He has also taught in Europe and the California State University . He is married to a Spaniard and has two children. Scholarship Brusseau s scholarship focuses on philosophical decadence, which he defines as philosophers scorning the task of making accurate theories about the world in favor of provoking more theorizing. Within this framework, whether a philosopher is actually right about things seems a secondary concern. There is also no displayed interest in helping non philosophers resolve ethical issues. The guiding purpose is to provoke more strictly philosophical discussion and study. As a result, the best philosophical idea equals the one producing the most philosophizing. Brusseau attempts to locate decadence in the history of philosophy at Nietzsche Friedrich Nietzsche s appropriation by recent French philosophers including Michel Foucault , Gilles Deleuze and Jacques Derrida . He calls the moment a reversal in philosophy s history, one where thought no longer exists to pursue truth, instead, truths exist to serve and accelerate thinking. It is unclear from Brusseau s published work and lectures whether he considers this development to be negative, neutral or positive. It is also unclear whether he considers himself a proponent of decadence. Literature Brusseau s novel Empire of Humiliation is set in Mexico City. ref http jefffarias.podbean.com 2009 09 23 ref Books Isolated Experiences , State University of New York Press , 1996 Decadence of the French Nietzsche , Rowman & Littlefield , 2004 Empire of Humiliation , Overflow, 2008 References Reflist Persondata Metadata ...   more details

  1. Losers' Tale

Losers Tale , the first of the Istanbul Quartet series, is widely considered to be novelist Hikmet Temel Akarsu s magnum opus. It met with great critical acclaim in 1998, the year it was published. It lived up to be one of the most important books of the counterculture in the following years. Today, it is a cult handiwork describing the economical depression of the 1990s and the grunge movement. In this novel, Akarsu has depicted a very extraordinary, conspicuous and even startling picture of Istanbul s less known spots and domains. This first book of the Istanbul Quartet series, written in a style the author nicknamed as Rock n Roman Turkish for Rock n Novel , focuses mainly on Kadikoy and its surrounding district. It talks about people who frequent underground locations, meet at a bar called Decadence, and while suffering from an inevitable dejection, choose to be rebels along the lines of the Losers Club which they identify themselves with. Censorship in Communist Romania 1947 1989 was widespread and virtually every published document, be it a newspaper article or a book, had to pass the censor s approval. The strictness of the censorship varied with time, the tightest being during the Stalinist era of the 1950s, and the loosest during the early period of Nicolae Ceau escu Ceau escu s rule, which ended with the July Theses . The purpose of the censorship apparatus was to subordinate all the spheres of the Romanian culture including literature, history, art and philosophy to the Romanian Communist Party Communist Party s ideology.
