  1. Decision matrix

mergefrom belief decision matrix date April 2012 A decision matrix is a list of values in rows and columns that allows an analyst to systematically identify, analyze, and rate the performance of relationships between sets of values and information. Elements of a decision matrix show decisions based on certain decision criteria. The matrix is useful for looking at large masses of decision factors and assessing each factor s relative significance. Decision matrix is used to describe a multi criteria decision analysis MCDA problem. An MCDA problem, where there are M alternative options and each need to be assessed on N criteria, can be described by the decision matrix which has M rows and N columns, or M     N elements, as shown in the following table. Each element, such as X sub ij sub , is either a single numerical value or a single grade, representing the performance of alternative i on criterion j . For example, if alternative i is car i , criterion j is engine quality assessed by five grades Exceptional, Good, Average, Below Average, Poor , and Car i is assessed to be Good on engine quality , then X sub ij sub Good . Robust decision making extends the robust design philosophy to general decision making, with uncertainty considered from the beginning controlling what uncertainty you can and finding the best possible solution that is as insensitive as possible to the remaining uncertainty. 1. Decision engine

A decision engine is a type of web search engine that uses input gathered from the user in order to provide more relevant or targeted results. Traditional search engines provide results based on key words and site popularity meaning that all users searching for the same phrase receive identical results. A decision engine uses input to provide customized results for each individual. Overview Typically, a decision engine operates in one of two ways. The first is to ask for input at the time of search. For example, when searching for a digital camera, the engine will allow the user to specify the importance of criteria, such as screen size, megapixels, zoom, body color, etc. The engine then provides a list only of items that match the user s conditions, removing the need for them to compare specs for all items manually. The second way a decision engine can function is by forming a long term relationship with the user in order to establish preferences and tastes. Once the engine has a stable profile of the user, it is able to provide very accurate, individual results based on that familiarity. For example if the user has been using a decision engine to search for puppies and the user inputs the search query Doxin , then results including dogs will be ranked more highly. 1. Technical decision

Unreferenced date December 2009 A technical decision is a term used in boxing when a fight has to be stopped because of a headbutt. In boxing fights, referees have to pay deep attention to the action going on between the fighters, especially when the two combatants are fighting close to each other. This is because, in the case of a cut, the referee must decide whether the cut was caused by a punch or by a head collision. Only the referee can make that decision. Most head collisions in boxing are probably unintentional, especially when both boxers are trying for a knockout , many times getting involved in close range fights. If a boxer intentionally butts an opponent s head, this is considered a flagrant foul that could result in disqualification of the offender. In the case of a cut to the head, it is the referee s responsibility of taking the injured boxer to a Medicine medical doctor seated at ringside as many times as the referee thinks necessary, regardless of the referee s decision of the cut being provoked by a punch or not. When the doctor tells the referee that the combatant cannot go on, then the referee must stop the fight. If the referee decided that the cut was caused by a punch, then the other boxer wins by technical knockout. If the referee decides it was produced by a collision, then the judges at ringside must hand over their scorecards, and the fighter ahead on points wins by technical decision. But there are distinct rules for a fight to be decided on a technical decision as well, because fights must go beyond the fourth round for any fighter to be declared a winner by technical decision.
