They were most popular in the 1970s, but continue to be sold at gift shops. Often they were in the form of trivia games, which enabled the player to guess before revealing the answer. Brands of books for use with decoder pens include Yes & Know, and surprise Ink. Fans of the adventure games released by Sierra Entertainment in the 1980s such as King s Quest and Space Quest are also familiar with the decoder pen, which was used to reveal the answers to hints in the hints book sold for each game. Eventually these were replaced by a colored translucent plastic window, which eliminated a visually interfering red pattern. History Inception 2005 Decoder was officially formed when guitarist Peter K. Wysocki joined with guitarist Dino Bibona to construct a classic metal band. Shortly after the guitarists joined forces, other members came onboard, and the group began a search for a vocalist. After a lengthy audition process, vocalist Marc Davis joined Decoder as the final piece of the puzzle. 1. Matrix decoder

Matrix decoder is an audio technology where a finite number of discrete audio channel s e.g., 2 are decoded into a larger number of channels on play back e.g., 5 . The channels are generally, but not always, arranged for transmission or recording by an encoder , and decoded for playback by a decoder . The function is to allow multichannel audio, such as quadraphonic sound or surround sound to be encoded in a stereo signal, and thus played back as stereo on stereo equipment, and as surround on surround equipment this is compatible multichannel audio. Process Matrix encoding does not allow one to encode several channels in fewer channels without losing information one cannot fit 5 channels into 2 or even 3 into 2 without losing information, as this loses dimension linear algebra dimensions the decoded signals are not independent. The idea is rather to encode something that will both be an acceptable approximation of the surround sound when decoded, and acceptable or even superior stereo. 1. Soft-decision decoder

In information theory , a soft decision decoder is a class of algorithm used to decode data that has been encoded with an error correcting code . Whereas a hard decision decoder operates on data that take on a fixed set of possible values typically 0 or 1 in a binary code , the inputs to a soft decision decoder may take on a whole range of values in between. This extra information indicates the reliability of each input data point, and is used to form better estimates of the original data. Therefore, a soft decision decoder will typically perform better in the presence of corrupted data than its hard decision counterpart. ref cite book last Proakis first John title Digital communications edition 4th year 2001 publisher McGraw Hill isbn 0071181830 pages 457 460 ref References reflist See also Forward error correction Soft in soft out decoder Category Error detection and correction Telecomm stub ...   more details

unreferenced date March 2010 A soft in soft out SISO decoder is a type of soft decision decoder used with error correcting code s. Soft in refers to the fact that the incoming data may take on values other than 0 or 1, in order to indicate reliability. Soft out refers to the fact that each bit in the decoded output also takes on a value indicating reliability. Typically, the soft output is used as the soft input to an outer decoder in a system using concatenated code s, or to modify the input to a further decoding iteration such as in the decoding of turbo code s. Examples include the BCJR algorithm and the soft output Viterbi algorithm . 1. Trace vector decoder

Unreferenced date December 2009 Orphan date December 2009 Trace vector decoder is a system that uses a microprocessor s trace mode to decode encrypted code just in time before it is executed and possibly re encrypt it after the execution. It can be used to enforce copy protections for some computer systems. Trace Vector in Motorola 68000 As an example, Motorola 68000 has a trace mode where a trace exception vector is executed before each instruction in the main program.
