orphan date November 2010 Neutral fats are produced by the dehydration synthesis of one or more fatty acid s with an alcohol like glycerol . Many types of neutral fats are possible both because of the number and variety of fatty acids that could form part of it and because of the different chemical bond bonding locations for the fatty acids. An example is a glyceride monoglyceride that has one fatty acid combined with glycerol, a diglyceride has two, and a triglyceride has three. Neutral fats are usually found in the thigh and torso area of the body as padding and insulation to keep warm. Sources Biology 12 a student resource , R. Prior. They help to regulate myocardial and neurological function, fluid balance, oxygen delivery, acid base balance and much more. Electrolyte imbalances can develop by the following mechanisms excessive ingestion diminished elimination of an electrolyte diminished ingestion or excessive elimination of an electrolyte. The most common cause of electrolyte disturbances is renal failure . The most serious electrolyte disturbances involve abnormalities in the levels of sodium , potassium , and or calcium . Other electrolyte imbalances are less common, and often occur in conjunction with major electrolyte changes. Chronic laxative abuse or severe diarrhea or vomiting Gastroenteritis can lead to electrolyte disturbances along with dehydration . People suffering from bulimia or anorexia nervosa are at especially high risk for an electrolyte imbalance. General function Electrolytes are important because they are what cells especially nerve, heart, muscle use to maintain voltages across their cell membranes and to carry electrical impulses nerve impulses, muscle contractions across themselves and to other cells. Kidneys work to keep the electrolyte concentrations in blood constant despite changes in your body. For example, during heavy exercise, electrolytes are lost in sweat, particularly sodium and potassium. These electrolytes must be replaced to keep the electrolyte concentrations of the body fluids constant. Image 3 Hydroxypropanoic acid.png thumb right 3 Hydroxypropionic acid , a simple beta hydroxy acid A beta hydroxy acid or hydroxy acid BHA is an organic compound that contains a carboxylic acid functional group and hydroxyl hydroxy functional group separated by two carbon atoms. They are closely related to alpha hydroxy acid s, in which the two functional groups are separated by one carbon atom. In cosmetics, the term beta hydroxy acid refers specifically to salicylic acid , which is used in some anti aging creams and acne treatments. Upon dehydration reaction dehydration , beta hydroxy acids yield an alpha beta unsaturated acid . Acidic properties Compared to non hydroxylated carboxylic acids, this group of acids is stronger, although less strong than the alpha hydroxy acid s. Due to the larger distance, the intramolecular hydrogen bridge is less easily formed compared to the alpha hydroxy acids. Savages is a 1974 United States American TV film directed by Lee H. Katzin and based on the novel Deathwatch novel Deathwatch by Robb White . It stars Andy Griffith and Sam Bottoms . File Mojave Desert.jpg thumb The Mojave Desert Synopsis A successful Los Angeles lawyer and hunter, Madec, Andy Griffith receives a rare permit to hunt Bighorn Sheep in the nearby Mojave Desert . He hires a timid college student named Ben Sam Bottoms , who will drive him into the desert with his Jeep CJ and help show Madec where the bighorn are. Ben is studying to be a geologist , so therefore he knows the desert very well. After accidentally shooting an old Prospecting prospector with his Winchester Model 70 rifle and trying to cover it up, Ben argues that the honest thing to do would be for the two of them to report the accidental shot, but Madec is too important to sit in jail. It is then that Madec decides to eliminate the only witness to the crime, Ben. Madec forces Ben to strip down to nothing but his shorts at gunpoint. Madec decides that this will be easy, because he will not have killed Ben himself, and he will make up a story saying that the two became separated, Ben went crazy, tore off all his clothes and died within a matter of hours due to dehydration and heat. Ben sees this as an opportunity to walk forty five miles to the nearest highway. But Madec won t let this accidental kill destroy his career, so he is watching him the whole way and aiming at him with his powerful rifle. The rifle s power shows as the old prospector s lungs are blown out of his back. After trying to climb a butte, Ben is shot by Madec causing him to fall giving him back injuries. Time is running out as he begins to hallucinate . Suffering from dehydration , hunger, sunburn , and gunshot wounds, Ben needs to find, food, water, shelter, and a weapon to stop Madec and save himself. The CRAM diet cereal, rice, applesauce, and milk a short term dietary treatment for diarrhea and gastroenteritis . The CRAM diet has more complete protein and fat content than the BRAT diet . Recent research The use of cereals, rice and milk as a stop gap eating plan for stomach upset, has been validated as a more effective remedy to manage diarrhea than BRAT by recent research in hospitals in South America and Asia. citation needed date July 2010 According to John Snyder, M.D., professor of pediatrics at the University of California at San Francisco Medical Center and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics subcommittee on treating acute diarrhea quote Not only does the CRAM diet seem to ease the diarrhea symptoms faster, but the milk gives the child more complete protein and needed fat, which is lacking in the BRAT diet. Need for additional hydration Due to severe dehydration caused by both diarrhea and gastroenteritis, the CRAM eating plan should be combined with oral rehydration therapy ORT through the administration of liquids e.g. Gatorade , Pedialyte or food based fluids such as broth or gruel s to replace loss of fluids. According to John Snyder, it s essential to combine the CRAM diet with an electrolyte replacement drink. In addition, contact your doctor immediately if the diarrhea symptoms remain severe or if your child exhibits any symptoms of dehydration , such as dry mouth , lack of urination , listlessness , and rapid heart rate . Alternatives An alternative to the CRAM diet is the BRAT diet , which consists of bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast, the BRAT diet BRATT diet , which consists of bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, and tea, and the BRAT diet BRATTY diet which consists of bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, tea, and yogurt.
