  1. Demetrius of Alopece

One source date February 2012 No footnotes date February 2012 Demetrius of Alopece Alopece was a deme of Athens , was a Greece Greek sculpture sculptor of the early part of the 4th century BC, who is said by ancient critics to have been notable for the life like realism of his statues. His portrait of Pellichus, a Corinthian general, with fat paunch and bald head, wearing a cloak which leaves him half exposed, with some of the hairs of his head flowing in the wind, and prominent veins, was admired by Lucian . He was contrasted with Cresilas , an idealizing sculptor of the generation before. Since however the peculiarities mentioned by Lucian do not appear in Greek portraits before the 3rd century BC and since the Greek art of the 4th century consistently idealizes, there would seem to be a difficulty to explain. The date of Demetrius above given is confirmed by inscriptions found on the Athenian Acropolis . 1. Neodamodes

The Neodamodes lang el , neodam deis were Helots freed after passing a time of service as hoplites in the Spartan Army . The date of their first apparition is uncertain. Thucydides does not explain the origin of this special category. Jean Ducat , in his book Les Hoplites 1990 , concludes that their statute was largely inspired by the measures dictated concerning the Brasidians , i.e. the Helots freed after taking part to the expedition of Brasidas in 424 BC. Their existence is attested from 420 to 369 BC. They were part of Sparta s army and 2,000 of them are recorded taking part, for example, to Agesilaus II s campaign in Ionia between 396 and 394 BC. The name comes from the words neos , meaning new , and lang grc d mos , meaning deme or territory . Differently from what is written by Hesychius of Alexandria , who brings together the neodamodes and the Athens Athenian demotes citizens of a deme , they never acquired full citizenship. The suffix d s signals only a resemblance. In truth, the only deme they joined was that of the Perioeci . See also Helots Perioeci Sciritae trophimoi References Paul Cartledge , Sparta and Lakonia. 1. Eubulus (statesman)

Eubulus , or Euboulos c.405 BC &ndash c.335 BC was a Politician statesman of ancient Athens , who was very influential in Athenian politics during the period 355 BC to 342 BC and was notable for his abilities in managing Athenian finances. Eubulus early life is unknown, other than that he was from the Anaphlystus deme . With the Athenian politician, Diophantus of Sphettus, as his patron, he became chief commissioner of the Theoric Fund, which provided free seats at public spectacles ref Greek Historical Inscriptions, 404 323 BC by P. J. Rhodes and Robin Osborne, Oxford University Press, 2007, pg 157 ref . He used this position to gradually take control of the finances of Athens and is credited with bringing a degree of prosperity not seen in many years. As an example of his approach, he introduced a law making it difficult to use public money for minor military operations, which ensured that a surplus was available for public works. Eubulus was generally considered a member of the peace party , in opposition to Demosthenes . Eubulus attempted to stop Philip II of Macedon Philip of Macedon intervening in Greek affairs by forming a Common Peace , with the support of Meidias , Aeschines , and Phocion . The results of his policy included an expedition to Thermopylae in 352 BC and an intervention in Euboea in 348 BC. Nevertheless, after his efforts failed to unite the Greeks, he went along with the peace of 346 BC negotiated by Demosthenes and Philocrates. When Demosthenes wanted to renew the war after Philip went into Phocis , Eubulus and his supporters argued for peace. But from 344 BC on, Eubulus influence was waning, and by 342 BC, Demosthenes party was in control. After the Battle of Chaeronea 338 BC Battle of Chaeronea no more is heard of Eubulus.
