A seed can be linked to the species of plant that produced it if massive numbers of seeds of a cultivated species are found at a site, it may be inferred that the species may have been grown for food or other products that are useful to humans, such as clothing , bedding or building material s. Two special sorts of cliff dwelling are distinguished by archaeologists the cliff house, which is actually built on levels in the cliff, and the cavate , which is dug out, by using natural recesses or openings. Some of the most famous of these are the North America n cliff dwellings, particularly among the canyons of the southwest, in Arizona , New Mexico , Utah , Colorado and Chihuahua state Chihuahua in Mexico , some of which are still used by Native Americans in the United States Native Americans . There has been considerable discussion as to their antiquity, but modern research finds no definite justification for assigning them to a distinct primitive race, or farther back than the ancestors of the modern Pueblo people . The area in which they occur coincides with that in which other traces of the Pueblo tribes have been found. The niches which were used are often of considerable size, occurring in cliffs to a thousand feet in height, and approached by rock steps or log ladders. Bremen cog or Bremer Kogge is a wreck of a Cog ship cog dated to 1380 found in 1962 in Bremen. Today it is displayed at the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven . There are also three relatively identical Bremen cog replicas built namely Ubena von Bremen , Hansekogge and Roland von Bremen . On 8 October 1962 during the dredging operations fragments of the ship were found in the Weser River . It turned out to be the remnants of a cog that seems to have sunk before completion. Based on the Dendrochronology dendrochronological analysis of the oak timber from which the cog was built the ship was dated to about 1380 AD. The search for more shipwreck fragments continued until July 1965 and yielded over 2,000 individual pieces of the ship. The fragments were transferred to the German Maritime Museum for preservation. In 1999 after 19 years of reconstruction the preservation was finished and the ship is now on display at the designated Koggenhalle of the German Maritime Museum. The precise dimensions of the Bremen cog were 24m long, 8m in the beam and just over 4m high on the sides. These measurements would have produced an estimated load capacity of 130 tons. ref Susan Rose, The Medieval Sea, 2007 ref See also Kolding cog References reflist External links http www.dsm.museum MA kogge.htm Bremen cog at the German Maritime Museum Category Archaeology of shipwrecks Category Ships preserved in museums de Bremer Kogge 1380 ... more details

Orphan date December 2009 Dendroarchaeology is a term used for the study of vegetation remains, old buildings, artifact archaeology artifact s, furniture, art and musical instruments using the techniques of dendrochronology tree ring dating . It refers to dendrochronological research of wood from the past regardless of its current physical context in or above the soil . History Tree ring laboratory scientists from Columbia University were some of the first to apply tree ring dating to colonel period, specifically architectural timbers in the eastern United States. For agencies like the National Park Service and other historical societies, Dr. Jacoby and Cook began dating historic structures in the lower Hudson River Valley, New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. This was difficult at the time due to a lack of sufficiently long master dating chronology and access to suitable structures. Not until 1998 was a Boston area master dating chronology developed. Today, the effectiveness of tree ring laboratory archaeological dating chronologies covers most of the area that was settled by the first European colonists.
