    Dr. Denis Murphy 6 August 1936, Nambour, Queensland 21 June 1984 , was an Australian Labor Party politician, historian and biographer. Murphy taught as an academic at the University of Queensland , writing extensively on the history of Labor in that state. Along with Peter Beattie , he was the leading figure in the push during the late 1970s to have the Queensland branch of the party reformed. After the success of the reform movement, and intervention from the party s federal headquarters, he became State Branch President. He was elected to the Parliament of Queensland for the electorate of Electoral district of Stafford Stafford at the Queensland state election, 1983 1983 state election . Murphy completed biographies on a number of Queensland Labor figures, notably Thomas J. Ryan Australian politician Thomas J. Ryan and Bill Hayden . He was working on a biography of Andrew Fisher before his death. Murphy was diagnosed with cancer in 1983 and died in 1984, aged 47. He died before having the opportunity to make a speech as a Member of Parliament.     Barry Alan Murphy born 13 May 1939 is a former Australian politician. Murphy was born in Bairnsdale, Victoria Bairnsdale to labourer Alan George Murphy and Nancy Loisa Eastwood. He attended local state schools before becoming an apprentice butcher from 1953 to 1958. In 1960 he became a form setter with the State Electricity Commission at Morwell, Victoria Morwell . On 11 February 1961 he married Denielle Hughes, with whom he would have two children that year he also joined the Morwell branch of the Australian Labor Party . He served in the Citizen Military Forces from 1961 to 1966 and was branch vice president of the Federated Engine Drivers and Firemen s Association from 1964 to 1967. In 1970 he was appointed country organiser of the Victorian Labor Party, leaving in 1973 to become a contractor for Victorian Railways . He sat on Shire of Morwell Morwell Shire Council from 1968 to 1971 and was chairman of the Division of McMillan Mcmillan federal electorate assembly in 1979.     Denis Murphy November 14, 1910 April 7, 1974 was an Ireland Irish fiddle r and noted traditional musician. Murphy was born in Lisheen, Gneeveguilla , County Kerry one of eight children of Bill and Mainie n e Corbett Murphy. His father played Fife musical instrument fife , flute and fiddle and had a fife and drum band. It was a house where music was played a lot with neighbours calling in. He and his sister Julia Clifford were taught fiddle by Padraig O Keeffe . He later played with the Lisheen Fife and Drum Band. Murphy emigrated to the United States , and in 1942 married Julie Mary Sheehan. They returned often to Ireland and returned permanently to Lisheen in 1965. While in the United States he played with the Ballinmore Ceili Band, with such players as Paddy Killoran , James Morrison fiddler James Morrison , Andy McGann and Lad O Beirne .
