It emphasizes the use of Inductive reasoning inductive logic and Scientific method scientific analysis to discover a hidden pattern of symbols within a matrix of grid spaces. Game Rules One player, the Designer, designs a pattern and then places a symbol within each cell of a 6x6 grid using an agreed upon set of symbols e.g., plus, circle, triangle, square, star . The Designer s pattern can be based upon visual symmetries, mathematical algorithms, or other methods. See examples of sample patterns below. The Designer s pattern is not shown to the other players, but must be discovered by them through the game play. Sample Patterns II grid solutions here Each Player of the game receives a paper with a blank 6x6 grid of cells on it and a listing of the symbols used for the game. Players place a tick mark in the lower right corner of cells in the grid if they would like to know the symbol the Designer placed there. Players pass their grids to the Designer, who fills in the ticked grid cells with the correct symbol, and then passes the grids back to their respective Players. Players look over the information provided by the Designer and try to discern what pattern s exist. 1. Braille Patterns

BrailleChars In Unicode , Braille is represented in a Unicode block block called Braille Patterns U 2800..U 28FF . The block contains all 256 possible patterns of an 8 dot Braille cell, thereby including the complete 6 dot cell range. ref name Unicode ch15 http www.unicode.org versions Unicode5.2.0 ch15.pdf Unicode Chapter 15 , section 15.10 ref Symbols, not a script In Unicode the Braille characters are not defined into any script. ref name Unicode ch15 That is, the patterns are available as symbols , without connection to an alphabetic letter or a number. This is because the same symbol can be used in multiple scripts, e.g. as a Latin character, a Vietnamese character, a Chinese character and a digit. For example while unichar 2813 BRAILLE PATTERN DOTS 125 is defined, there is no reference to the letter H , as exists in basic Latin Braille. In other Braille languages the same pattern & x2813 can have a different meaning in the original Latin Braille the same & x2813 can represent digit 8 . For this reason a dot pattern is not a letter , Unicode declares that strictly spoken, Braille patterns are symbols , not a script . The Unicode character property General Property is So Symbol, other , not Lo Letter, other . Although beyond that declaration, Braille is treated as a script multiple places. E.g. the character property Scripts in Unicode Script for the 256 Braille code points is ISO 15924 Brai , for Braille. This way searching users and programs are led to the right place. 1. Mixing patterns

Mixing patterns refer to systematic tendencies of one type of nodes in a network to connect to another type. For instance, nodes might tend to link to others that are very similar or very different. This feature is common in many social network s, although it also appears sometimes in non social networks. Mixing patterns are closely related to assortativity however, for the purposes of this article, the term is used to refer to assortative or disassortative mixing based on real world factors, either topological or sociological. Types of Mixing Patterns Mixing patterns are a characteristic of an entire network, referring to the extent for nodes to connect to other similar or different nodes. Mixing, therefore, can be classified broadly as assortative or disassortative. Assortative mixing is the tendency for nodes to connect to like nodes, while disassortative mixing captures the opposite case in which very different nodes are connected. Obviously, the particular node characteristics involved in the process of creating a link between a pair will shape a network s mixing patterns. 1. Bacterial patterns

Orphan date April 2011 The pattern formation formation of patterns in the Bacterial growth growth of bacterial colony bacterial colonies has extensively been studied experimentally. Resulting morphologies appear to depend on the growth conditions. They include well known morphologies such as dense branched morphology DBM or diffusion limited aggregation DLA , but much complex patterns and temporal behaviour can be found. A large number of studies on pattern formation in bacterial colonies have been performed in Bacillus subtilis and in Proteus mirabilis . Mathematical modeling of colony growth can reproduce the observed morphologies and the effect of environmental changes. Employed models include Reaction diffusion system Cellular automata Colonies of Bacillus subtilis Colonies of Bacillus subtilis on a Petri dish can grow under controlled conditions. By varying agar concentration which permits the control of the hardness of the medium , and the nutrient concentration, the response of the colony to external stresses can be studied. 1. Sound Patterns

Sound Patterns 1961 is a musical piece or Musical composition composition for a cappella mixed choir chorus by Pauline Oliveros . Oliveros won the Gaudeamus International Composers Award in 1962 with this work. ref Von Gunden 1983, p.26 27 ref Rather than a traditional text, the work is constructed of Phone phonetics phonetic sounds chosen on the basis of their timbre . The piece is entirely notated, lasts about four minutes, and features an Exposition music exposition measures 1 12 , Musical development development 12 46 , and Recapitulation music recapitulation 47 59 . The sounds may be understood to reflect Oliveros interest in electronic music , which she recently had begun to work with. Heidi Van Gunden 1983 illustrates this point by highlighting four types of sounds that correspond to basic electronic music techniques white noise ring modulation ring modulated sounds percussion percussive Envelope disambiguation envelopes Audio filter filtered techniques White noise is created vocally through the initial consonant sh and variations such as s, z, wh, p, t, h, ct, d, ch, th, k, and sw. Ring modulation is imitated through rapidly changing the vowel content, percussive envelopes through lip pops, tongue clicks, snap fingers, and flutter lips , and filtering through Mute music muting such as by covering the mouth with one s hand, sounding the consonant M through tightly closed lips, or singing through clenched teeth. ibid, p.26 28 It is Oliveros most carefully composed piece and features only one measure of controlled improvisation linking the development to the recapitulation. The piece also predates similar compositions by Gy rgy Ligeti and Karlheinz Stockhausen Moment 1961 1962, revised 1965 . Ligeti was actually one of the judges for the Gaudeamus competition and featured unusual vocal sounds in his Aventures 1962 and Nouvelles Aventures 1962 65 . 1. Flag and pennant patterns

The flag and pennant patterns are commonly found patterns in the price charts of financially traded assets stocks, bonds, futures, etc . The patterns are characterized by a clear direction of the price trend, followed by a consolidation and rangebound movement, which is then followed by a resumption of the trend. br br Flag pattern The flag pattern is encompassed by two parallel lines. These lines can be either flat or pointed in the opposite direction of the primary market trend . The pole is then formed by a line which represents the primary trend in the market. 1. Arene substitution patterns

Arene substitution patterns are part of organic chemistry IUPAC nomenclature and pinpoint the position of substituent s other than hydrogen in relation to each other on an aromatic hydrocarbon . Ortho , meta , and para substitution Image Ortho meta para.svg thumb 150px left Main arene substitution patterns. See also Electrophilic aromatic substitution In ortho substitution , two substituents occupy positions next to each other, which may be numbered 1 and 2. In the diagram, these positions are marked R and ortho. In meta substitution the substituents occupy positions 1 and 3 corresponding to R and meta in the diagram . In para substitution , the substituents occupy the opposite ends positions 1 and 4, corresponding to R and para in the diagram . The toluidine s serve as an example for these three types of substitution. clear Ipso , meso , and peri substitution gallery Image Ipso Substitution V.1.svg ipso substitution. Image Meso Substitution V.1.svg meso substitution. Image Peri Substitution V.1.svg peri substitution. gallery Ipso substitution describes two substituents sharing the same ring position in an intermediate compound in an electrophilic aromatic substitution . Meso substitution refers to the substituents occupying a benzyl ic position. It is observed in compounds such as calixarene s and acridine s. Peri substitution occurs in naphthalene s for substituents at the 1 and 8 positions. Cine and tele substitution In cine substitution , the entering group takes up a position adjacent to that occupied by the leaving group . For example, cine substitution is observed in aryne chemistry. ref GoldBookRef title cine substitution file C01081 ref Tele substitution occurs when the new position is more than one atom away on the ring. ref GoldBookRef title tele substitution file T06256 ref Origins The prefixes ortho , meta , and para are all derived from Greek, meaning straight ...
