Professors, graduate, and undergraduate students work with the Grade 8 girls to develop computer science skills and create projects of their own. Purpose Michelle Craig reviewed a number of middle school yearbooks, specifically the grade 8 girl s section of future aspirations and noticed that very few of the young women aspired to a career in science but often listed careers that could be connected to this field such as design. Craig describes the purpose of the program as Lots of girls write off computer science CS or math before they get to high school so we want to catch them before that point because we believe that they grade 8 girls would like CS if they were exposed to it earlier. Orphan date February 2009 Gryphon Audio Designs is a manufacturer of high end audio equipment located in Denmark . Gryphon is known for their extremely expensive cost no object audio equipment, with few updates and product changes compared to their competition. Gryphon Audio Designs history Gryphon was started by Flemming E. Rasmussen, after he obtained a degree in graphics arts from the Aarhus Art Academy in Denmark and after he had been involved in the local music community as well as employed as a designer for a sportswear company. Mr. Rasmussen first founded 2R Marketing, which was an importer of high end audio products into Denmark, and developed a magnetic cartridge moving coil preamplifier for phonograph record players . After this preamp which became the Gryphon Head Amp was shown at the 1986 Consumer Electronics Show it developed sufficient interest in Japan to justify the formation of a sister company, which has become Gryphon Audio Designs. Gryphon Audio Designs became a formal company in 1985, and gradually the importing of audio components into Denmark by 2R Marketing was phased out until it ceased in 1993. Mr. Rasmussen owns a collection of master reel to reel audio tape recording reel to reel tapes from the 1950s and 1960s. These tapes are played on a modified Studer A80 Reel to Reel tape deck to listen to products as they are being designed, in order to achieve a final product with the desired sound. Gryphon products are designed by Gryphon Audio Designs in Denmark, but built by subcontractors. Service is accomplished by Gryphon Audio Designs at their facility. To aid in service, the individual circuit boards in each Gryphon product has its own quality control certificate, while the completed unit also has its own quality control certificate. Indian Creek Designs ICD was a manufacturer of paintball markers based in Idaho and owned by Jerry Dobbins. As of 2008, ICD has announced at its website that it will no longer be manufacturing paintball markers, with Vaporworks http www.paintballtrader.com taking over service and maintenance duties. History Line Si, owned then by Ross Alexander, was known for producing a pump marker in 1986, the Bushmaster SI. Ross sold the company to Jerry Dobbins who renamed it Indian Creek Designs. ICD kept the Bushmaster name and produced several markers including the Cat line of markers. These markers included the Puma, Alley Cat, Alley Cat II, Bob Cat, and Thunder Cat, all of which were very similar in design. One of ICD s most famous line of markers was the Bushmaster 2000 paintball marker Bushmaster 2000 line. This line of markers was intended to compete with the high end markers of the time Angel paintball Angels , Shocker paintball marker Shockers , Rainmakers, etc. , but are mostly considered a mid range marker. Their design is based on the common electro pneumatic poppet valve design. The Bushmaster line of markers came in several generations and styles, but was eventually discontinued in 2004 and replaced with the Promaster. The Indian Creek Designs BKO BKO rumored to stand for Bushmaster Knock Off was the little brother of the Bushmaster 2000 series. Rather than being fully pneumatic, the ram housing consisted of a spring to return the marker s bolt, resulting in slower cycling speeds. The BKO was also discontinued in 2004. As of December 2007, the Paintball division of ICD has closed its doors. Latest products ICD s most recent markers were the Promaster and ICD Freestyle Freestyle . The Promaster is very similar to the Bushmaster internally, with the exception of the utilization of pneumatic hoses. It is also shorter than previous Bushmaster models.
