Multiple issues expert Sociology date March 2009 refimprove June 2008 The correspondence principle or correspondence thesis is a sociology sociological theory that posits a close relationship between social standing and the educational system. Writers in this vein notably Samuel Bowles and Herbert Gintis are in particular interested in the relationship between a person s social standing and the type of education that is received at school. In its most basic form the principle states that the social relations of the school can be directly related to those in the work place, meaning that educational institutions prepare students for their future work roles ref name Howell1982 Citation last1 Howell first1 Frank M. last2 McBroom first2 Lynn W. title SOCIAL RELATIONS AT HOME AND AT SCHOOL AN ANALYSIS OF THE CORRESPONDENCE PRINCIPLE publisher American Sociological Association year 1982 volume 55 ref . Apart from the formal curriculum that is offered by the school, the advocates of the correspondence principle argue that the structure of the school and also the personal experience given to each student the hidden curriculum is important to their future socialization. They also emphasize that there is a strong relationship between the child s education and the interaction they have with their parents at home. There is a significant intergenerational replication of consciousness and socialized inequality via the linkages among the authority relations experienced by fathers at work, transferred to childrearing styles, and replicated in school interaction with teachers ref name Howell1982 . unreferenced date February 2012 A correspondence chess server is arguably the most convenient form of correspondence chess . Instead of players directly email ing moves to each other, the game is played on a clickable board on a World Wide Web web page, which keeps track of all the moves. The web server emails each player when it is his or her turn. This helps ensure email privacy, and avoids the potential pitfalls of using email clients, such as computer virus viruses . It also eliminates the need for players to maintain their own chessboards. Most correspondence servers have move validation and check for stalemate and checkmate . This eliminates the sending of illegal moves, which would then have to be corrected. One of the drawbacks of a correspondence server is downtime. If the server is unavailable for any reason, the games it is serving cannot be played. There are several good and reliable correspondence chess servers. In mathematics, the Riemann Hilbert correspondence is a generalization of Hilbert s twenty first problem to higher dimensions. The original setting was for Riemann surface s, where it was about the existence of regular differential equation s with prescribed monodromy groups. In higher dimensions, Riemann surfaces are replaced by complex manifold s of dimension 1, and there is a correspondence between certain systems of partial differential equation s linear and having very special properties for their solutions and possible monodromies of their solutions. Such a result was proved independently by Masaki Kashiwara 1980 and Zoghman Mebkhout 1980 . Statement Suppose that X is a complex variety. Riemann Hilbert correspondence general form there is a functor DR called the de Rham functor, that is an equivalence from the category of holonomic D module s on X with regular singularities to the category of perverse sheaves on X . By considering the irreducible elements of each category, this gives a 1 1 correspondence between isomorphism classes of irreducible holonomic D module s on X with regular singularities, and intersection cohomology complexes of irreducible closed subvarieties of X with coefficients in irreducible local system s. A D module is something like a system of differential equations on X , and a local system on a subvariety is something like a description of possible monodromies, so this correspondence can be thought of as describing certain systems of differential equations in terms of the monodromies of their solutions.
