A township library was created in Calumet during the early 1870s. In 1898 a new public library was constructed by the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company . This library, providing public bathing facilities and a smoking room, as well as art prints, books and foreign language newspapers, also served as the school library until the mid 1940s. At this time, with the Calumet & Hecla Mining Company leaving the area, the building was reconfigured and the library collection was moved to the high school. The school resumed library services to the community. A new Calumet Public School Library was built as an addition to the CLK Calumet, Laurium & Keweenaw school campus in 1997. Designed by the firm of Thomblinson Harburn Associates, the library reflects the historical look of many of the turn of the century buildings in the area with the use of soft curves and large mullioned windows. The combination of new oak furniture and refinished antiques from the old C & H library emphasize this traditional design.
