The Dial a Ghost agency finds the perfect home for the Wilkinsons in a ruined abbey, and tells them they can move on Friday 13th. He is taken away from his friends at the orphanage by his cousins Fulton and Frieda, who feel they should rightly have inherited the Hall. Patterson Dial May 19, 1902 March 23, 1945 was a writer and silent film actress of the 1920s who became the wife of novelist Rupert Hughes . She was born Elizabeth Patterson Dial in Madison, Florida . Screen Actress Miss Dial appeared in fourteen motion pictures, beginning with Gloria s Romance in 1916. The other movies in which she appeared were in the three year period from 1921 1924. Some films in which she participated are Get Rich Quick Wallingford 1921 , Sonny 1922 , Reno 1923 , A Man s Mate 1924 , and Married Flirts 1924 . Married To Esteemed Author The actress became Mrs. Rupert Hughes on January 1, 1925. Benefits The benefit of a solar dial over a conventional on off time switch is the ability to track the sunrise and sunset times for a particular latitude which is specified when the unit is purchased . The solar dial adjusts itself by a fractional amount each day, thereby ensuring that street lamp street lighting is switched on and off when required throughout the year. Many dials also have an additional part night facility allowing for a switch off in the middle of the night, and then back on in the morning if needed. This part night option was widely adopted in the United Kingdom for street lighting in the 1970s and 1980s in order to conserve energy. Some solar dial switches have a clockwork or battery reserve to maintain time accuracy in cases of power outage. If this is lacking, the switch would have to be reset every time the power fails, a labour intensive task. Frequently, one time switch with a heavier switch rating is used to control a whole series of lighting columns, perhaps one side of a street, and another to control the opposite side. Many columns are however fitted with individual clocks, especially on alleyways, pathways, and areas in which a single column stands alone. Sometimes the time switch is housed in a box fitted to a wall or telegraph pole , and the lanterns are powered switched by means of an extra fifth core on the overhead cables. Obsolescence The solar dial time switch has largely been superseded by photocell control, which is cheaper and requires less maintenance. Diversi Dial , or DDial was an online chat server that was popular during the mid 1980s. It was a specialized type of bulletin board system that allowed all callers to send lines of text to each other in real time, operating at 300 baud . In some ways, it was a sociological forerunner to Internet Relay Chat IRC , and was a cheap, local alternative to CompuServe chat, which was expensive and billed by the minute. At its peak, at least 35 major DDial systems existed across the United States , many of them in large cities. During the evening when telephone rates were low, the biggest DDial systems would link together using Telenet or PC Pursuit connections, forming regional chat networks.
