Brooks and illustrated by Kurt Wiese . It tells how animals in New York State rebel against humans, destroying property and taking control of farms. At the same time, Freddy s friend Mr. Camphor is pressured into running for governor. The situations collide when animals take over Camphor s estate, imprisoning the political figures there. Author Brooks was in ill health. There is an element of finality toward the end of the story, as Freddy s foe Mr. Garble encountered 13 books and 13 years before is at last jailed. All animals are given the right to vote in human elections. Uncharacteristically foretelling, Brooks writes that years later Freddy is elected mayor of Centerboro. p.  243 Elements of its plot are similar to George Orwell s 1945 novel Animal Farm . Plot summary The local rabbits have been much help to the Bean animals, so it is a surprise that some are vandalizing and stealing. Confronted, instead of apologizing, a rabbit criticizes Mrs. Bean, then gives ridiculous evidence that her husband was eaten by the Beans. 1. Titus Manlius Torquatus (dictator)

For other people named Titus Manlius Torquatus Titus Manlius Torquatus disambiguation Refimprove date December 2009 Titus Manlius Torquatus , son of Titus or Titus Manlius T. f. Torquatus , was Roman republic Roman Republican consul 235 BC and 224 BC , Censor ancient Rome censor 231 BC , and Roman dictator dictator 208 BC . Family background The Manlia gens Manlii were one of the oldest and most distinguished patrician gentes in the Roman Republic. One Gnaeus Manlius Cincinnatus had been chosen consul in 480 BC , four years after the first Fabius had become consul. Prominent consuls in the family included the early 4th century consul Marcus Manlius Capitolinus Marcus Manlius T.f. Capitolinus whose career was marked by his gens banning the use of the praenomen Marcus thereafter , and the 4th century consul Titus Manlius Torquatus 347 BC Titus Manlius L.f. Imperiosus Torquatus . Titus was descended from this last consul, notable not only for his military successes but also for executing his own son for an impetuous breach of military discipline. It is not clear if the consul Aulus Manlius Titus f. Torquatus Atticus was Titus s elder brother. Political career In his first consulship in 235 BC, with Gaius Atilius A.f. Bulbus as his co consul, he subjugated Sardinia , recently acquired from the Carthaginians . After this war, the temple of Janus mythology Janus was shut for the second time in Roman history Livy 1. 9 , meaning that Rome was at peace, not war. He was then elected censor with Quintus Fulvius Flaccus in 231 BC , and apparently did not complete the lustrum ritual cleansing of the Roman state , because new censors were elected in 230 BC . Torquatus might have fallen out with his colleague and resigned, or the omens might have been considered inauspicious, forcing both censors to resign . In 224 BC , he was elected consul again, this time with his censorial colleague Quintus Fulvius Flaccus Flaccus . In 216 BC , as one of the most senior senators then living, h ...   more details

  1. Retrospective determinism

Unreferenced date December 2009 Retrospective determinism is the logical fallacy that because something happened, it was therefore bound to happen the term was coined by the French philosopher Henri Bergson . For example When he declared himself dictator of the Roman Republic , Julius Caesar was bound to be assassinated. This argument gives no logical grounds to conclude Caesar s assassination was the only possible outcome, or even the most likely outcome of the circumstances. Simply asserting this is committing the fallacy of retrospective determinism. This type of fallacy is often used as a build up to a hasty generalization because something happened in given circumstances, it was not only bound to happen, but will in fact always happen given those circumstances. For example Caesar was assassinated when he declared himself dictator. Sic semper tyrannis this goes to show that all dictators will eventually be assassinated. This not only does not follow on logical grounds, but is false a dictator may be murdered by a political rival, killed in a war with a foreign power, or simply die by accident or natural causes. Discounting these possibilities, it still does not follow that any dictator, if they lived long enough, would be assassinated because Caesar was assassinated. While the conclusion is correct, the premise is faulty. Caesar s assassination does not predict the inevitable assassination of all other dictators. 1. Impunity game

Orphan date February 2009 The Impunity Game is a simple game in experimental economics , similar to the Dictator Game . The first player the proposer chooses between two possible divisions of some endowment such as a cash prize The first choice will be a very unequal division, giving most of the endowment to herself, and sharing little with the second player the partner or the responder . The second choice is a more even division, giving a fair proportion of the initial pie to the responder, and keeping the rest for herself. The second and final move of the game is in the hands of the responder he can accept or reject the amount offered. Unlike the ultimatum game , this has no effect on the proposer, who always keeps the share she originally awarded herself. This game has been studied less intensively than the other standards of experimental economics, but appears to produce the interesting result that proposers typically take the least fair option, keeping most of the reward for themselves, a conclusion sharply in contrast to that implied by the ultimatum or dictator games. ref GameTheoryBolton Notes note GameTheoryBolton 1998 Bolton, Katok, Zwick, International Journal of Game Theory, http lema.smeal.psu.edu katok 45K5E4WC73MJF1WQ.pdf page 285 for a dictator game comparison.
