A display list or display file is a series of graphics commands that define an output image. The image is created Rendering computer graphics rendered by executing the commands. For a display device without a frame buffer, such as the old Vector graphics vector graphics displays , the commands were executed every fraction of a second to maintain and animate the output. In modern systems, the commands need only be executed when they have changed or in order to refresh the output e.g., when restoring a minimized window . A display list can represent both two and three dimensional scenes. Systems that make use of a display list to store the scene are called retained mode systems as opposed to immediate mode systems. Perhaps the earliest popular systems with true display list was the Atari 8 bit family . The display list actually called so in Atari terminology is a series of instructions for ANTIC , the video co processor used in these machines. This program, stored in the computer s memory and executed by ANTIC in real time, controls the GTIA video interface controller chip to create the actual screen display. In some older computer systems such as the Commodore 64 , a display list can be defined as a CPU driven series of writes to certain display mode, color control, or other visual effect registers in the video device, rather than a series of rendering commands. For more information on 3D television 3D television A 3D display is the display device capable of conveying a Stereoscopy stereoscopic perception of 3 D depth to the viewer. The basic technique is to present offset images that are displayed separately to the left and right eye. Both of these 2 D offset images are then combined in the brain to give the perception of 3 D depth. Although the term 3D is ubiquitously used, it is important to note that the presentation of dual 2 D images is distinctly different from displaying an image in Three dimensional space three full dimensions . The most notable difference is that, in the case of 3D displays, the observer s head movement will not increase information about the 3 dimensional objects being displayed. Holographic display Holographic displays do not have this limitation. Similar to how in sound reproduction it is not possible to recreate a full 3 dimensional sound field merely with two stereophonic speakers, it is likewise an overstatement of capability to refer to dual 2 D images as being 3D . The accurate term stereoscopic is more cumbersome than the common misnomer 3D , which has been entrenched after many decades of unquestioned misuse. Threat display is a type of Display zoology display behaviour aiming at intimidation of a potential enemy. citation needed date November 2011 It may be directed at a rival of the same species in tournament species , or at a potential threat from a different species. citation needed date November 2011 The competitive advantage of threat display lies in overstating one s aggressive potential and thus increasing the chances that the opponent chooses to flee fight or flight response . citation needed date November 2011 The opposite strategy is submission , behaviour aiming at understating one s aggressive potential in order to dissuade the opponent from attacking. citation needed date November 2011 Human threat display includes showing one s teeth snarl , compare smile , inflating one s chest and other stances enlarging one s silhouette from the point of view from the opponent and making loud vocal calls battle cry . citation needed date November 2011 gallery Image Tattoo withchild.jpg human threat display posing Image Snarl2006.JPG human threat display snarling Image Allblackhaka.jpg coordinated human threat display Haka of the All Blacks Image Triple H Entrance Sequence Melbourne 10.11.2007.jpg professional wrestler Triple H combining various modes of human threat display standing in an elevated position, facial expression, expanding of the chest, raising of the arms Image Two dogs seems like fighting but are NOT Jan 2008 Shot in Jalandhar Punjab India by gopal1035 003.jpg two dogs showing threat display in playful mock combat . Bacterial display or bacteria display or bacterial surface display is a protein engineering technique used for in vitro protein evolution. Libraries of polypeptides displayed on the surface of bacteria can be screened using flow cytometry or iterative selection procedures biopanning . Competing methods for protein evolution in vitro are phage display , ribosome display , yeast display , and mRNA display . unreferenced date January 2010 Image Edge lit.JPG thumb right 250px A lightguide edge lit display. A Lightguide display also known as an edge lit display is an obsolete electronic mechanism which was used for displaying alphanumeric characters in electronic devices such as calculator s, multimeter s, Laboratory equipment laboratory measurement instruments , and entertainment machines such as pinball games. Construction It contains a set of sandwiched Poly methyl methacrylate acrylic or clear plastic panels, each of which is engraved with a numeral or character to be displayed. Light from independently controlled incandescent bulb s passing into the edge of these panels reflects off the internal surfaces of the plastic. When the light encounters the engraved digits, it is scattered, rendering a brightly illuminated digit or character. Current use The technology was rendered obsolete by the development of light emitting diode s LED in the 1970s, though lightguide tubes are still used in electronics manufacturing, in situations where it is difficult to place an LED in the appropriate physical location on a display or bezel. In such cases, LEDs mounted on printed circuit board s are fitted with lightguides to channel light to the appropriate position. This employs the same principle used in optical fiber s. vacuum fluorescent display used in a videocassette recorder Multiplexed displays are electronic displays where the entire display is not driven at one time. Instead, sub units of the display typically, rows or columns for a dot matrix display or individual characters for a character orientated display, occasionally individual display elements are Multiplexing multiplexed , that is, driven one ... display is continuously active. A multiplexed display has several advantages compared to a non multiplexed display Fewer wires often, far fewer wires are needed Simpler driving electronics can ... Most character oriented displays such as seven segment display s, fourteen segment display s, and sixteen segment display s display an entire character at one time. The various segments of each ... and column lines of the matrix electrically isolated from each other. For liquid crystal display s, the intersection of the row and column is not conductive at all. In the example of the VCR display ... in all of the digits are connected in parallel. One by one, the microprocessor driving the display ... that are at a positive potential. If the display had been built with every segment being individually connected, the display would have required 49 wires just for the digits, with more wires being needed for all of the other indicators that can be illuminated. By multiplexing the display, only seven ... one segment at a time. The display on the Hewlett Packard HP 35 was an example of this. The calculator .... Pixel oriented displays By comparison, in dot matrix display s, individual pixel s are located .... Active matrix liquid crystal display s provide a storage element at each pixel so that the pixel continues to display the correct state even when not being actively driven. Break up Because most multiplexed displays do not present the entire display simultaneously, they are subject to break ... their vision across a multiplexed display, they might see a jumble of individual digits rather than ... more details
