  1. Cyclostyle (copier)

The Cyclostyle duplicating process is a form of stencil copying invented by David Gestetner in London in 1890. A stencil is cut with the help of small toothed wheels on a special paper underlaid with carbon paper which serves as a printing form. Gestetner named the Cyclostyle after a drawing tool he used. In 1875 Thomas Edison received a patent for the electric pen , which a decade later became the basis for the mimeograph machine . Gestetner s cyclostyle was similar and provided more automated, faster reproductions. See stencil duplicator . In 1893 Francis Galton described a system for sending Line art line drawings through the then widely established telegraph system, using simple numeric codes, and printing out the line drawings at the other end from the codes. He referred to this printer as the Cyclostyle. It contained elements of Gestetner s system, and also elements in common with modern day computer graphics printing of line drawings. 1. Timarit.is

Unreferenced date April 2008 Timarit.is also known as Tidarrit.fo and Aviisitoqqat.gl is an open access publishing open access digital library run by the National and University Library of Iceland which hosts digital editions of newspapers and magazines published in Iceland , Faroe Islands and Greenland as well as publications in their languages elsewhere, such as Canada which had a large influx of Icelanders in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The project was initially sponsored by the West Nordic Council and launched its web interface under the title VESTNORD in 2002. The web interface has since undergone two major revisions, in 2003 and 2008. With the last revision a decision was made to gradually convert images from the DjVu image format to the more common PDF . Hence, part of the collection can be viewed with the DjVu plugin and part with a PDF reader. The digital collection covers material from the 17th century to the early 21st century and offers users the ability to collect Internet bookmark bookmark s on their free account for ease of use as well as do a text search on the majority of the collection. As of February 2009 there were more than 2,6 million images in the archive of which 2 million had been Optical character recognition OCR ed. Initially the aim was to limit access to newspapers published before 1930 to avoid questions of copyright but shortly afterwards the project made an agreement with Morgunbla i to scan and publish all of their issues to the year 2000. This agreement was followed with others involving both current and defunct newspapers published in the 20th century. Newspapers published after 2000 are usually sent to the library in digital format. The general rule, depending on agreements with each publisher, is to make these available 2 3 years after their initial publication. 1. Darka and Slavko

Darka & Slavko in Ukrainian language Ukrainian is one of the most popular duos in Ukrainian diaspora and Ukraine . The duo Darka & Slavko was formed when Darka Konopada & Slau Slavko Halatyn , both first generation Ukrainian Americans, became musical partners in 1986. It happened when once during a Ukrainian college group s poetry reading for political prisoners, they were asked to sing a few songs. Thus began a ten year musical collaboration as well as an eight year marriage. Under the name Darka & Slavko the duo released four albums and produced many projects for other musicians. Initially they focused attention on creating a sound that was comprehensive for Ukrainian Americans who, until then, considered Music of Ukraine Ukrainian music existing only for the older generation. Darka & Slavko wanted to change that. On their first album, simply entitled, Darka & Slavko , one of the songs they chose to do was Volodymyr Ivasyuk Volodymyr Ivasyuk s Chervona Ruta song Chervona Ruta . It was specifically arranged within the Reggae genre for a couple of reasons they wanted to add some shock value to their first album and also, they believed, Volodymyr would have approved this. Their second album, Khvylyna Moment gave way to more sophisticated arrangements and the duo began to write original songs. Finally in 1995, Darka & Slavko released their final studio album, Povir Believe which was a collection of entirely original songs. One of the songs, Spivtsi Singers was written about the life and death of Volodymyr Ivasyuk and how it sparked an explosion of Ukrainian pop music development that continues until today. This song was written on a train from Lviv to Chernivtsi and two days later was debuted at Ukraine s first contemporary music festival Chervona Ruta in 1989 where the duo and their newly formed group were ultimately awarded Best International Band . Darka & Slavko continued to tour around the world, and also recorded a live album with jazz renditions ...   more details
