The famous Shuisky family descends from his eldest son, Vasily Kirdyapa . A senior descendant of Vsevolod the Big Nest and also of Alexander Nevsky Dmitry was great great grandson of Nevsky s third son Andrey of Gorodets Andrey , he inherited Suzdal in 1359 and Nizhny Novgorod in 1365. His policy towards Tatars was conciliatory for the most part, as his eastern lands were continuously exposed to their attacks. After some rivalry with Dmitri of Moscow , he was installed by the Khan of the Golden Horde as the Grand Duke of Vladimir in 1360. During his reign, he repeatedly quarreled with the Novgorod Republic over the raids of ushkuiniks Novgorodian pirates who looted his own capital and Tatar markets along the Volga River. Three years later he was dethroned and had to make peace with Dmitri by marrying him to his daughter, Eudoxia Dmitriyevna Eudoxia . Joining his army with Dmitri s, he led an allied assault on Volga Bulgaria Volga Bulgars and Mordovia . In 1377, the allied armies were defeated by the Tatars on the Pyana River , because as the chronicler put it they were too drunk to fight. However, in 1382 Dmitry Konstantinovich took the side of Khan Tokhtamysh in taking over Moscow and sent his sons to serve in the Tatar army. s start s reg succession box title List of Russian rulers Grand Prince of Vladimir before Ivan II of Russia Ivan II after Dmitry Donskoi years 1359 1362 s end Persondata name Dmitry of Suzdal alternative names short description date of birth 1324 place of birth date of death June 5, 1383 ... more details

The Crime and the Glory of Commander Suzdal is a science fiction short story by Cordwainer Smith , set in Smith s Instrumentality of Mankind Instrumentality universe. It was first published in Amazing Stories in May 1964, and is collected in The Rediscovery of Man compendium. Plot Commander Suzdal is a captain of The Navy and the Instrumentality sent on a one man mission of exploration in actuality he is accompanied by several generations of Turtle People . He hibernates in Cryonics cryogenic sleep while long lived turtle underpeople run the ship, until the need for a true human arises. A deep space probe is found. It tells a brilliantly conceived but utterly false story about the plight of a group of settlers calling themselves the Arachosians. Suzdal is deceived and turns his ship towards the planet Arachosia and reenters hibernation. When he arrives he learns the horrible truth. The original settlers nearly went extinct, succumbing to a plague that in Smith s words rendered femininity carcinogenic. They were only able to save their women by chemically and later genetically making them male. However, the resulting society is deeply unbalanced by the lack of females and ordinary family structure. The Arachosians, not truly male or female and calling themselves klopts , realize on an instinctive level what they are missing and as a result, hate normal human beings with unbridled fervor and regard them as abominations to be destroyed even though they have not seen one in many generations ... Dmitry Mikhaylovich of Tver lang ru c 1299 September 15, 1326 , nicknamed The Terrible Eyes lang ru , was a Grand Prince of Vladimir from 1322 to 1326 and Grand Prince of Tver from 1318 to 1326 . He was a son of Mikhail of Tver and Anna of Kashin . Dmitry continued his father s fight with Grand Prince Yuri Danilovich of Moscow for the yarlik also iarlik that is, the diploma or patent of office for the title of Grand Prince of Vladimir, which was granted by the Khan of the Golden Horde. The title was much desired because the Grand Prince of Vladimir was the khan s tax collector in Rus , and as such could gain authority and real power over the other princes of Rus . Following Yury s machinations which led the khan to grant the yarlik to Moscow and their father s execution at the Horde in 1318, Dmitry and his brother, Alexander, fought a series of battles with Yury and intrigued against him at the Horde, culminating in Dmitry s acquisition of the yarlik of office for the grand princely throne in 1322 and his murder of Yury at the Horde in Sarai three years later. Dmitry was himself arrested for the murder and executed in Sarai on the orders of Uzbeg Khan in 1326. His remains were taken back to Tver and interred in the cathedral there. ref John Fennell, Princely Executions in the Horde 1308 1339, Forschungen zur Osteuropaischen Geschichte 38 1988 , 9 19 Jeremiah Curtin, The Mongols in Russia Boston Adamant Media Corporation,2002 , 310 311 Janet Martin, Medieval Russia 980 1584 Cambridge Cambridge University Press, 1995 , 176 177. ref See also Rulers of Russia family tree References Reflist External links http vgv.avo.ru 5 1 10 18.HTM ...
