  1. Doctrine of separation

Refimprove date November 2008 The doctrine of separation , also known as the doctrine of non fellowship, is a belief among some Protestant religious groups that the members of a church should be separate from the world and not have association with those who are of the world . There are many scriptures in both the Old Testament and New Testament of the Bible that provide the basis for this doctrine. For example Book of Amos Amos 3 3 Can two walk together except they be agreed? Ephesians 5 11 Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness II Corinthians 6 14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers... Book of John John 17 13 16 I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Different groups vary widely in what to them constitutes separation. Additionally, there is a distinction between first and second degree separation. For example, many Baptists want to live in a way that is distinct from the typical lifestyle of the world first degree . A common phrase of balance is Be in the World but not of it. Citation needed date June 2010 Others would claim that not only should one separate from the world, but also from those Christians who would not separate themselves from the world second degree . Believers in second degree separation believe that Christians who are tied up with the world are themselves guilty of apostasy for their failure to adequately separate. Practices and areas that should be separated under the more strict interpretations of the doctrine of separation include Mental Life Thoughts, reading, attitudes Physical Life Dress, physical contact, entertainment, speech Social Life Friendships ...   more details

  1. Trial separation

A trial separation is an informal splitting of a couple. Unlike legal separation , this is purely a personal arrangement and does not require legal proceedings. The couple can choose later to go through with a divorce or can choose to stay married. A trial separation may allow the spouse who wants the divorce to experience some of the feelings of being separated without making a final decision to divorce. The main advantage of a trial separation, of course, is that it s easily reversible. You can try it for a while, go through counseling, and then reconcile, or you can try it for a while and then proceed with divorce. 1. Separation masters

Unreferenced date June 2007 Separation masters are a method of long term preservation for most modern color motion picture film . Since monopack color film used in such processes as Eastman Color Negative ECN , Eastman Color Positive ECP and their successive revisions contains photographically active color couplers which remain in the film after development, the emulsion will continue to produce chemical reactions in the image which cumulatively create a color fading, usually heavily biased towards the pink spectrum. In order to protect against this occurrence, the technique of separation masters was created. Separation mastering is essentially an inversion of the Technicolor three strip system, which used filtration to create three black and white masters each sensitized for one of the RGB spectrums and then printed the negatives with a CMYK colorspace. In separation mastering, the original camera negative is used to create three black and white copies, each one filtered for one of the RGB spectrums. The black and white process is considered inert after development and thus should be more stable for long term archival, preservation, and restoration although the film base may eventually decay regardless . 1. Separation (statistics)

Multiple issues wikify November 2010 onesource November 2010 In statistics separation is a phenomenon associated with models for dichotomous or categorical outcomes, including logistic regression logistic and probit regression . Separation occurs if the predictor or a linear combination of some subset of the predictors is associated with only one outcome value when the predictor is greater than some constant. For example, if the predictor X is continuous, and the outcome y     1 for all observed x     2. If the outcome values are perfectly determined by the predictor e.g., y     0 when x     2 then the condition complete separation is said to obtain. If instead there is some overlap e.g., y     0 when x     2, but y has observed values of 0 and 1 when x     2 then quasi complete separation obtains. A 2  ×   2 table with an empty cell is an example of quasi complete separation. This observed form of the data is important because it causes problems with estimated regression coefficients. Loosely, a parameter in the model wants to be infinite, if complete is observed. If quasi complete separation is the case, the likelihood is maximized at a very large but not infinite value for that parameter. Computer programs will often output an arbitrarily large parameter estimate with a very large standard error. Methods to fit these models include exact logistic regression and Firth logistic regression , a bias reduction method based on a penalized likelihood. References Albert, A. and Anderson, J.A. 1984 . 1. Source separation

Source separation problems in digital signal processing are those in which several Signal information theory signals have been mixed together and the objective is to find out what the original signals were. The classical example is the cocktail party problem , where a number of people are talking simultaneously in a room like at a cocktail party , and one is trying to follow one of the discussions. The human brain can handle this sort of auditory source separation problem, but it is a very tricky problem in digital signal processing. This was first analyzed by Colin Cherry . Several approaches have been proposed for the solution of this problem but development is currently still very much in progress. Some of the more successful approaches are principal components analysis and independent components analysis , which work well when there are no delays or echoes present that is, the problem is simplified a great deal. The field of computational auditory scene analysis attempts to achieve auditory source separation using an approach that is based on human hearing. The human brain must also solve this problem in real time. In human perception this ability is commonly referred to as auditory scene analysis or the cocktail party effect . Applications One of the practical applications being researched in this area is medical imaging of the brain with magnetoencephalography MEG . This kind of imaging involves careful measurements of magnetic fields outside the head which yield an accurate .... Applying source separation techniques on the measured signals can help remove undesired artifacts from the signal. Another application is the separation of music al signals.
