Military career James Dunlop was the son of John Dunlop of Dunlop, Ayrshire and brother of Andrew Dunlop. He entered the army as an Ensign with the 82nd Foot in January 1778 and served in Nova Scotia during the American War of Independence . He was promoted Lieutenant in 1779. In 1781 Dunlop was dispatched to Charlestown with news of the seizure of Chesapeake Estuary, thereafter he served on the Halifax Regional Municipality Halifax Station. After the war he was transferred to India as Captain in the 77th Foot and served under Charles Cornwallis, 1st Marquess Cornwallis Cornwallis in the Third Anglo Mysore War . Carol Dunlop 1946&ndash 1982 was a writer, translator, activist, and photographer. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, to Daniel and Jean Ayers Dunlop, she married writer Francois Hebert, with whom she had one son, Stephane b. 1968 . The couple settled in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In the 1970s Hebert and Dunlop divorced, and Dunlop eventually moved to Paris. In the late 1970s, Dunlop met and later married writer and activist Julio Cort zar . She accompanied Cortazar to numerous destinations, and sometimes traveled without Cortazar. Among places she visited in the course of her political activism were Nicaragua and Poland , at the latter of which she participated in a congress of solidarity with Chile . She died two years before Cort zar and is buried in the Cimeti re de Montparnasse . Dunlop grew up in a musical family and began playing guitar at age nine and drums at ten. He was playing professionally by age 16 and received some classical education in percussion. He toured with Big Jay McNeely and recorded with Moe Koffman in 1950 before serving in the United States Army Army during the Korean War . After his discharge he played with Sonny Stitt , Charles Mingus , Sonny Rollins 1958, 1966 67 , Maynard Ferguson 1958 60 , Lena Horne , Duke Ellington 1960 , and Thelonious Monk 1960 64 it is his recordings with the last of these that he is principally remembered. Later in his life he recorded with Lionel Hampton 1975 81 , Earl Hines 1973 74 , Ray Crawford , and Joe Zawinul . In 1984, Dunlop retired, having recorded on over 100 albums. His brother, Boyd Lee Dunlop , is a jazz pianist that was rediscovered while living at a nursing home in Buffalo. Ed Dunlop was born to British champion trainer John L. Dunlop John Dunlop and his wife. Educated at Eton College Eton , he began his career on stud farms in Ireland and Kentucky before completing the National Stud student course in Sydney, Australia. Upon returning to Britain he spent three years as assistant to Nicky Henderson , then joined Alex Scott racehorse trainer Alex Scott at his Newmarket Stables. When Scott was murdered in 1994 Dunlop took over and renamed the business Gainsborough Stables. The new stable had its first winner on 19 October 1994 and since then has sent entrants to races as far flung as Istanbul, Dubai, Milan, Ireland and the United States. In 2003 alone the stable had 50 winners, and such prestigious owners as Edward Stanley, 19th Earl of Derby , have placed horses to train with Dunlop. Notable horses include Ouija Board horse Ouija Board won 47 , 2 million . Dunlop married in 1996 and has three daughters. Jack Dunlop , also known as John Dunlop , John Patterson , and most commonly Three Fingered Jack Dunlop 1872? February 24, 1900 was an outlaw in the closing days of the Old West , best known for being a train robbery train robber . Whether or not he actually physically had three fingers on either of his hands has never been confirmed. Dunlop was born in Texas , and spent most of his early life from his mid to late teens as a cowboy . How and where he first became involved in the outlaw life is uncertain, but he was arrested after several bank robbery bank robberies in 1893.
