A technical draw is a term used in boxing when a fight has to be stopped because a fighter is unable to continue from an accidental injury usually cuts or foul. Technical draws also occur when a bout has not completed a certain number of rounds usually four , thereby not making it an official fight . It is spun from carding carded rolag s. It is generally spun from shorter staple wool stapled fibers. SpinOff Winter 2004 74 76. ref and make good knitting yarns. Long draw spinning is most often contrasted to the short draw spinning short draw technique used to spin worsted yarns. Technique The first step to spin a true woolen yarn is to card the fiber into a rolag using carding Hand carders handcarders . The rolag is spun without much stretching of the fibers from the cylindrical configuration. The hand holding the fiber is the active hand, and the one closer to the wheel is passive. The passive hand smooths yarn, picks out vegetable matter, and pulls out extra bits of fluff, ref name SpinOff Huebscher Rhoades, Carol. Spinning Basics The Long Draw. SpinOff Winter 2004 74 76. ref but that is all. The work of drafting is done by the active hand, and most of the regulation and smoothing of yarn is done by twist and tension. Drafting is done by pinching off a short section of the rolag, and then pulling back while twist is added to it. The active hand pulls back until the yarn is the desired thickness. The passive hand controls how much twist is allowed in the drafting yarn too much twist and the yarn won t draft too little and the yarn will break. Twist concentrates in the thin areas of the yarn, solidifying these. Thus the tension doesn t stretch these parts thinner, but instead drafts the thicker parts until all the yarn is approximately the same thickness. This has the effect of automatically thinning out the thicker parts, which is what allows this technique to work. Once the yarn is the desired thickness ... more details

Context date November 2009 A draw works is the primary winch hoisting machinery that is a component of a rotary drilling rig . Its main function is to provide a means of raising and lowering the traveling block traveling blocks . The wire rope drilling line winds on the drawworks drum and extends to the crown block and traveling blocks, allowing the drill string to be moved up and down as the drum turns. The segment of drilling line from the draw works to the crown block is called the fast line . The drilling line then enters the sheaves of the crown block and is makes several passes between the crown block and traveling block pulley pulleys for mechanical advantage . The line then exits the last sheave on the crown block and is fastened to a derrick leg on the other side of the Drill floor rig floor . This section of drilling line is called the dead line . A modern draw works consists of five main parts the drum, the Electric motor motor s , the reduction gear , the brake, and the auxiliary brake. The motors can be Alternating current AC or Direct current DC motors, or the draw works may be connected directly to diesel engines using metal chain like belts. The number of gears could be one, two or three speed combinations. The main brake, usually operated manually by a long handle, may be friction band brake, a disc brake or a modified clutch . It serves as a parking brake when no motion is desired. The auxiliary brake is connected to the drum, and absorbs the energy released as heavy loads are lowered. A draw sheet is a small bed sheet placed crosswise over the middle of the bottom sheet of a mattress to cover the area between the person s upper back and thighs, often used by medical professional s to move patient s. It can be made of plastic, rubber, or cotton, and is about half the size of a regular sheet. It can be used in place of a mattress pad if a rubber mattress is used. The draw sheet may or may not be tucked into the sides of the bed. When a draw sheet is used to move patients, it is sometimes known as a lift sheet. Nursing manuals recommend that, when a plastic or rubber draw sheet is used, a cotton drawsheet is placed over it. If a folded sheet is used as a draw sheet, the folded edge of the sheet is positioned at the person s upper body. Draw sheets used as lift sheets are generally not tucked in, though sometimes after the move, they are. References http www.mondofacto.com facts dictionary?draw sheet draw sheet . mondofacto.com. Plates are available in many different sizes and shapes for drawing different shapes of wire, including round, square, oval, half round and hexagonal. The plate has rows of holes drilled through it which are slightly wider at the back. Drawing wire Main Wire drawing When drawing, the plate is held securely in a vise or other fixture. Annealing metallurgy Annealed wire is filed at one end to give it an initial taper. The tapered end is inserted into a hole with a final diameter just smaller than its current width. Special pliers , called draw tongs are used to hold the tip of the wire and pull it through, sometimes with the aid of grease or wax as a lubricant . Small diameter wire may be drawn manually, while very thick wire may require a drawing bench with a crank. Often, a wire can be drawn three times in a row before it needs to be re annealed. This must be done because drawing wire work hardens it, which causes the wire to become brittle. Brittle wire that has not been annealed may snap during the drawing process. Draw plates reduce the thickness of wire by reshaping the metal increasing length while decreasing diameter. As such, a piece of wire will become considerably lengthened during the drawing process.
