The Interactive Encyclopedia System , or TIES , was a hypertext system developed at the University of Maryland, College Park by Ben Shneiderman in 1983. The earliest versions of TIES ran in MS DOS DOS text mode, using the cursor arrow keys for navigating through information. A later version of HyperTIES for the Sun workstation was developed using the NeWS window system, with an authoring tool based on UniPress s Gosling Emacs text editor. The TIES program has evolved into the HyperTies commercial product, sold by the Cognetics Corporation. HyperTies has a small feature set and has touch screen support which makes it optimal for public displays and information kiosks. As for navigation types, only reference links are supported, which can be either text or graphics. The computer mouse mouse pointer also highlights anchors when passing over them. CINT is a command line C programming language C C Interpreter computing interpreter that is included in the Object oriented programming object oriented data analysis Software package installation package ROOT . Although intended for use with the other faculties of ROOT, CINT can also be used as a standalone addition to another program that requires such an interpreter. CINT is an interpreted version of C or C , much in the way BeanShell is an interpreted version of Java programming language Java . In addition to being a language interpreter, it offers certain Bash Unix shell bash like Unix shell shell features such as history and tab completion . To accomplish the latter, it relies heavily on the Reflection computer science reflection support built into ROOT. User classes that follow these interfaces may also take advantage of these features. The language interpreted by CINT is actually something of a hybrid between C and C , covering about 95 of ANSI C and 85 of C . The syntax, however, is a bit more forgiving than either language. For example, the operator Operators in C and C 2B 2B Other operators code code can be replaced by code . code with only an optional warning. In addition, statements on the command line do not need to end with a semi colon, although this is necessary for statements in macros. Refimprove date June 2007 A memetracker is a tool for studying the migration of memes across a group of people. The term is typically used to describe website s that either analyze blog posts to determine what web pages are being discussed or cited most often on the World Wide Web , or allow users to vote for links to web pages that they find of interest. Sites in the latter group are often referred to as social media sites. Sample systems The original publicly viewable memetracker was Blogdex , which is now defunct. However, many sites inspired by it exist today, such as Digg Digg.com a popular social media site Slashdot Reddit Technorati Techmeme Polymeme Wikio Memetrackers are frequently characterized by purely automatic operation in determining the most popular links, though many modern sites incorporate some level of human editorial control in an effort to combat Spam electronic spam links and other efforts to exploit the services commercially. The introduction of memetrackers was instrumental in the rise of blogs as a serious competitor to traditional printed news media . Through automating or reducing to one click the effort to spread ideas through word of mouth , it became possible for casual blog readers to focus on the best of the blogosphere rather than having to scan numerous individual blogs. The steady and frequent appearance of citations of or votes for the work of certain popular bloggers also helped create the so called A List of bloggers.
