In this configuration, the intake is in the upper rear center of the aircraft, just below the Vertical stabilizer stabilizer , while the exhaust and engine is at the rear of the aircraft. The S duct is located in the tail, or empennage , of the aircraft. The shape of the S duct is distinctive and easily recognized, and was used in several aircraft, beginning in 1962 with the Hawker Siddeley Trident . Currently, the Dassault Falcon 7X and Dassault Falcon 900 business jets, and the Tupolev Tu 154M narrow body airliner in limited production, are the only aircraft in production that use the S duct design. It passes through the buccal fat pad buccal fat , buccopharyngeal fascia, and buccinator muscle then opens into the vestibule of the mouth next to the maxillary second molar tooth . The buccinator acts as a valve that prevents inflation of the duct during blowing. Running along with the duct superiorly is the transverse facial artery and upper buccal nerve running along with the duct inferiorly is the lower buccal nerve. Pathology Blockage, whether caused by Salivary duct calculus salivary duct stones or external compression, may cause pain and swelling of the parotid gland parotitis . 1. Perilymphatic duct

Context date December 2009 Cleanup date December 2009 The perilymphatic duct is where the perlyphatic space i.e., the vestibule of the inner ear is connected to the subarachnoid space. This works as a type of shunt to eliminate excess perilymph fluid from the perlymphatic space around the cochlea of the ear . Perilymph is continuous with cerebrospinal fluid CSF in the subarachnoid space. CSF pressure abnormalities do not generally have clinical impact on the inner ear which is explained physically by the bore diameter of the perilymphatic duct and its length. This duct goes through the Human skull skull and is parallel with but not directly associated with the endolyphatic duct . The duct is lined by an epithelium. The opening of the nasolacrimal duct into the inferior nasal meatus is partially covered by a mucosal fold valve of Hasner or plica lacrimalis . Excess tears flow through nasolacrimal duct which drains into the inferior nasal meatus . This is the reason the nose starts to run when a person is crying or has watery eyes from an allergy, and why one can sometimes taste eye drops. Like the lacrimal sac, the duct is lined by stratified columnar epithelium containing mucus secreting goblet cells , and is surrounded by connective tissue. It usually lies next to the cystic artery . It is of variable length. It contains Spiral valves of Heister spiral valves of Heister, which do not provide much resistance to the flow of bile. Function Bile can flow in both directions between the gallbladder and the common hepatic duct and the common bile duct. In this way, bile is stored in the gallbladder in between meal times. The hormone cholecystokinin , when stimulated by a fatty meal, promotes bile secretion by increased production of hepatic bile, contraction of the gall bladder, and relaxation of the Sphincter of Oddi . Clinical significance Gallstone s can enter and obstruct the cystic duct, preventing the flow of bile. The increased pressure in the gallbladder leads to swelling and pain. This pain is sometimes referred to as a gallbladder attack because of its sudden onset. During a cholecystectomy , the cystic duct is clipped two or three times and a cut is made between the clips, freeing the gallbladder to be taken out. They unite at short intervals with one another, the resulting tubes presenting a considerable increase in caliber, so that a series of comparatively large tubes passes from the bases of the Medullary ray anatomy medullary ray s into the renal pyramids . In the medulla the tubes of each pyramid converge to join a central tube, the duct of Bellini , which finally opens on the summit of one of the renal papilla e the contents of the tube are therefore discharged into one of the renal calyces . They are also referred to as galactophores , galactophorous ducts , mammary ducts , mamillary ducts and milk ducts . They are the structures which carry milk toward the nipple in a Lactation lactating female. Lactiferous ducts are lined by a columnar epithelium supported by myoepithelial cell s. Within the areola , the lactiferous duct were thought to dilate to form the lactiferous sinus in which supposedly milk accumulates between breastfeeding sessions. However new research suggests that lactiferous sinus does not exist. ref cite doi 10.1111 j.1469 7580.2005.00417.x ref When a woman is not lactating, the lactiferous duct is frequently blocked by a keratin plug. This plug prevents bacteria from entering the duct in non lactating women. The columnar epithelium plays a key role in balancing milk production, milk stasis and resorption. The cells of the columnar epithelium form tight junction s which are regulated by hormones and local factors like pressure and cassein content. Prolactin and or placental lactogen are required for tight junction closure while progesterone is the main hormone preventing closure before birth. ref name Nguyen 2001 cite pmid 11479131 ref ... It was discovered and described in 1822 by Hermann Treschow Gartner . The paired mesonephric ducts in the male , in contrast, go on to form the paired epididymis , vas deferens ductus deferens , ejaculatory duct and seminal vesicle . In the female they may persist between the layer of the broad ligament of the uterus and in the wall of the vagina . Clinical significance These may give rise to Gartner s duct cyst s. ref name pmid16890546 cite journal author Dwyer PL, Rosamilia A title Congenital urogenital anomalies that are associated with the persistence of Gartner s duct a review journal Am.
