E Z notation , or the E Z convention , is the IUPAC IUPAC nomenclature preferred method of describing the stereochemistry of double bond s in organic chemistry . It is an extension of Cis trans cis trans notation that can be used to describe double bonds having three or four substituent s. Following a set of defined rules Cahn Ingold Prelog priority rules , each substituent on a double bond is assigned a priority. If the two groups of higher priority are on opposite sides of the double bond, the bond is assigned the configuration E from entgegen , IPA de nt e n lang , the German word for opposite . If the two groups of higher priority are on the same side of the double bond, the bond is assigned the configuration Z from zusammen , IPA de tsu zam n lang , the German word for together . style margin 1em auto 1em auto align center Image Trans 2 butene.svg 130px           align center Image Cis 2 butene.svg 130px align center E But 2 ene           align center Z But 2 ene The letters E and Z are conventionally printed in italic type , within parentheses , and separated from the rest of the name with a hyphen . The album is a compilation of all but one of the tracks from Devo s two E Z Listening Muzak Cassettes , which had been available only through Club Devo in 1981 and 1984, respectively, consisting of instrumental versions of classic Devo songs performed in the style of easy listening Muzak or New Age music . The original E Z Listening Muzak Cassette, Volume 2 contained two versions of Shout, but only one appears on the CD due to time constraints in 1987 CDs had the capacity of just 74 minutes . The Hello Kitty version, featuring synthesizers and an electric guitar, was included on the CD, whereas the other is a lounge music version featuring electronic piano, synth bass and drums. Additionally, the CD does not replicate the original cassette track order. The version of Satisfaction present here uses the original Rolling Stones guitar riff, which does not appear in any other versions of Devo s cover. The riff was possibly added because this rendition would otherwise bear no resemblance to the original indeed, the song s vocal harmony could not be replicated with an instrument and Devo s quiet bass riff was the only indicator of what it was. Note that the print letters, above the staff, are not normally included. audio C major scale.mid Play In music , letter notation is a system of representing a set of pitches, for example, the notes of a musical scale scale , by letters. For the complete Western diatonic scale , for example, these would be the letters A G, possibly with a trailing symbol to indicate a half step raise a sharp music , or a half step lowering flat, music b . This is the most common way of specifying a note in speech or in written text in English or German. In some European countries H is used instead of B, and B is used instead of B music b . 1. Engineering notation

Refimprove date March 2011 Engineering notation is a version of scientific notation in which the powers of ten must be multiples of three i.e., they are powers of a thousand, but written as, for example, 10 sup 6 sup instead of 1,000 sup 2 sup . ref Citation inventor last Dickinson inventor first Peter D. issue date Oct. 19, 1976 title Calculator Apparatus for Displaying Data in Engineering Notation country code US patent number 3987290 ref As an alternative to writing powers of 10, SI prefix es can be used, which also usually provide steps of a factor of a thousand. ref Except in the case of square and cubic units in this case the SI prefixes provide only steps of a factor of one million or one billion. ref Compared to normalized scientific notation, one disadvantage of using SI prefixes and engineering notation is that significant figures are not always readily apparent. For example, 500  m and 500 10 sup 6 sup m cannot express the uncertainty distinctions between 5 10 sup 4 sup , 5.0 10 sup 4 sup , and 5.00 10 sup 4 sup m. This can be solved by changing the range of the coefficient in front of the power from the common 1 1,000 to 0.001 1.0. In some cases this may be suitable in others it may be impractical. In the previous example, 0.5, 0.50, or 0.500  mm would have been ... notation, as used in civil and mechanical engineering United States , uses the following notation where 3.0 10 sup 9 sup can be written as 3.0E 9 or 3.0e 9 The E or e should not be confused with the E mathematical constant exponential e which holds a completely different significance.
