Unreferenced date December 2009 Orphan date December 2009 In engineering, iso elastic refers to a system of Elasticity physics elastic and tension mechanics tensile parts springs and pulleys which are arranged in a configuration which serves to isolate physical motion at one end from affecting the same motion at the other end. This type of device must be able to maintain angular direction and load bearing over a large range of motion. The most prominent use of an iso elastic system is in the supporting armature of a Steadicam . The Steadicam arm is used to isolate a film or video camera from the operator s movements. Steadicam arms all work in a fashion similar to a Luxo L1 spring lamp since each arm has 2 sections similar to and labelled like a human arm , both the upper and fore arm sections consist of a parallelogram with diagonal iso elastic cable pulley spring system. The iso elastic system is tensioned to counteract the weight of the camera and steadicam sled. This tensioning allows the camera and operator to move vertically and independently of each other. For example as the operator runs, the bouncing of his body is absorbed by the springs, keeping the camera steady. The arm also has unsprung hinge s at both ends of each arm allowing it to bend in the horizontal plane just like your elbow, not like a spring lamp . To understand how an iso elastic system works, we must first understand how springs work. Noref date June 2010 The Elastic Band were a musical group formed in North Wales in the 1960s, They were one of the exponents of the UK psychedelic rock scene from the late 60 s and featured Andy Scott guitarist Andy Scott who would go on to become guitarist with Sweet band Sweet . Other members were August Eadon Gus who went by the name Ted Yeadon when he was a member of Elastic Band, Sean Jenkins drums and Mike Scott bass Andy s brother . The band broke up in 1969 when Yeadon accepted an offer to join Love Affair band Love Affair . They released an album LP record entitled Expansions On Life 1969 1970 on the Decca Nova label. Elastic Press was a United Kingdom British small press specialising in single author short story collections. It was run by Andrew Hook between November 2002 and November 2008 and was based in Norwich . In 2005 and 2009 Elastic received British Fantasy Awards for Best Small Press. Context date October 2009 Elastic recoil is the rebound of the Human lung lungs after having been stretched by inhalation ref Sherwood, L. 2007 . Human Physiology From Cells to Systems , 6th ed, Thomson Brooks Cole, Belmont, CA. ref , or rather, the ease with which the lung rebounds. With inhalation, the interpleural pressure the pressure within the pleural cavity of the lungs decreases. Relaxing the diaphragm during expiration allows the lungs to recoil and regain the interpleural pressure experienced previously at rest. Elastic recoil is inversely related to Pulmonary compliance lung compliance . This phenomenon occurs because of the elastic fibers in the connective tissue of the lungs and because of the surface tension of the film of fluid that lines the alveoli . As water molecules pull together, they also pull on the alveolar walls causing the alveoli to recoil and become smaller. But two factors prevent the lungs from collapsing surfactant and the interpleural pressure. Surfactant is a surface active lipoprotein complex formed by type II alveolar cells. The proteins and lipids that comprise surfactant have both a hydrophilic region and a hydrophobic region. By adsorbing to the air water interface of alveoli with the hydrophilic head groups in the water and the hydrophobic tails facing towards the air, the main lipid component of surfactant, dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine, reduces surface tension. It also means the rate of shrinking is more regular because of the stability of surface area caused by surfactant. Pleural pressure is the pressure in the pleural space. When this pressure is lower than the pressure of alveoli they tend to expand. This prevents the elastic fibers and outside pressure from crushing the lungs. It is a homeostasis homeostatic mechanism.
