  1. Arc mapping

Arc mapping is a technique used in fire investigation ref Name NFPA 921 cite book last National Fire Protection Association title User s Manual for NFPA 921 publisher Jones & Bartlett Publishers date 2006 location url http books.google.com books?id cm1LUYyXar0C&pg PA87&lpg PA87&dq 22arc mapping 22 wikipedia&source web&ots p3c0quoVJq&sig 30SFLmE W58EG63M8GGUOCHddcU doi isbn 0763744026 page 87 ref and is usually performed by a forensic engineering forensic electrical engineering electrical engineer . It relies on finding the locations of electric arc electrical arcs and other electrical faults that occurred during the fire the locations of the electrical faults can then, under some circumstances, indicate the progression of the fire over time. The basis of the technique is the assumption that, when fire or hot gases created by the fire impinges on an electrical line whether or not protected by a conduit , it will melt the wire insulation and cause an electrical fault at the first point that it reaches on the electrical line. Note that, for this to occur, the electrical line must be energized at the time that fire hits it. The ultimate goal of arc mapping is often to determine the point of origin fire point of origin of the fire. A common assumption used in reaching this goal is that the fire expands uniformly in all directions as it burns, and maintains a circular shape centered on the point of origin therefore, when an electrical fault occurs on an electrical line, the point of origin is on a perpendicular to that point. Care must be taken with this assumption, however, because in many cases, fire does not extend uniformly in particular, large local fuel loads , venting , and air currents have a strong effect on fire progression. Several other factors affect the locations where electrical faults occur. Electrical faults do not always occur where fire first reaches a conduit ... a circuit breaker as a result, a significant part of arc map analysis is determining the order in which ...   more details

  1. Infralateral arc

An infralateral arc or lower lateral tangent arc is a rare Halo optical phenomenon halo , an optical phenomenon appearing similar to a rainbow under a white parhelic circle . Together with the supralateral arc they are always located outside the seldom observable 46 halo , but in contrast to supralateral arcs, infralateral arcs are always located below the parhelic circle. The shape of an infralateral arc varies with the elevation of the sun . Between sunrise and before the sun reaches about 50 over the horizon, two infralateral arcs are located on either side e.g. Wikt lateral lateral of the 46 halo, their convex apexes lying tangent to the 46 halo. Image Tectonics Sumatra quake.gif thumb upright Western Sunda Arc and Trench showing tectonic and seismic activity. The Sunda Arc is a volcanic arc that has produced the islands of Sumatra and Java island Java , the Sunda Strait and the Lesser Sunda Islands . A chain of volcano es forms the topographic spine of these islands. The arc marks an active convergent boundary between the East Eurasian plates that underlie Indonesia , especially the Sunda Plate and the Burma Plate , with the India Plate India and Australian Plate s that form the seabed of the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal . The Sunda Arc is a classic example of a volcanic island arc , in which all the elements of such geodynamic features can be identified. The India and Australian Plates are subduction subducting beneath the Sunda and Burma plates along the Sunda Arc. The tectonic deformation along this subduction zone in the Java Trench also known as the Sunda Trench caused the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake of December 26, 2004. The Sunda Arc is home to some of the world s most dangerous and explosive volcanoes. The eruption of Mount Tambora on Sumbawa Island , in 1815, is thought to be the most massive in recorded history. Also this subduction zone has created arguably the world s largest active volcano Lake Toba which produced the largest volcanic eruption in human history erupting just over 2,800 km of magma, a VEI of 8. The loudest noise in recorded history occurred during the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa and was heard convert 5,000 km mi abbr on away. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed by these eruptions and by episodes of activity at other volcanoes, including Papandayan , Galunggung , and Kelut . ARC Kenya is based in the ARO Development Centre which is located in Majiwe District in Nyanza. The ARC stands for Action Resort for Change. History Operations of both organisations began in 1992 when construction started on the ARO Development Centre in Majiwa District, Western Kenya. The buildings were completed in 1996. Initially the centre was envisioned as a centre for the care of those affected by HIV AIDS but due to the crippling poverty of the surrounding region it was decided that it would be better to focus on community development and poverty reduction. In 2001 the centre completely rededicated itself to this purpose though there is still a health clinic on the premises run by the Seventh Day Adventists. ref , ARO Development Centre, http www.arc aid.no aro development centre , Retrieved 2012 04 25 , ref The twin organisations of ARC Aid and ARC Kenya are now focused on community development through technical and sustainable solutions to poverty and environmental issues Projects run.
