  1. Central Power Electric Cooperative

Central Power Electric Cooperative is a North Dakota based electrical generation and transmission cooperative based in Minot, North Dakota and was founded in 1949. Central Power purchases power from Basin Electric Power Cooperative to serve its six member rural electric cooperative s. It also built the William J. Neal Station near Voltaire, ND in 1951 to meet its members needs the power being delivered over the lines of the Otter Tail Power Company. Neal Station was sold to Basin so that Central Power could become a member of Basin. After Basin built its Leland Olds and Antelope Valley power plants, Neal Station was no longer as important and was removed in the early 2000s. Central Power owns and operates 114 distribution substations, 22 high voltage transmission stations with voltages up to 230 kV, and about 1000 miles of 115 kV, 69 kV, 57 kV, and 41.6 kV transmission line interconnected with the Western Area Power Administration, Basin Electric, Otter Tail Power, Montana Dakota Utilities, and Xcel Energy systems. 1. Wheeling (electric power transmission)

In electric power transmission , wheeling is a term used to describe either of the following the act of transporting electric power megawatts or megavolt amperes over transmission lines, or the act of providing the service of transporting electric power over transmission lines. Electric power networks are divided into transmission and distribution networks. Transmission line s move electric power between Power station generating facilities and Electrical substation substations , usually in or near population centers. From substations, power is sent to users over a Electricity distribution distribution network . A transmission line might move power a few miles or hundreds of miles. An electric utility that generates power does not have to own power transmission lines only a connection to the network or grid. The utility then pays the owner of the transmission line based on how much power is being moved and how congested the line is. Some power generating entities join a group which has shared ownership of transmission lines. These groups may include Electrical utility investor owned utilities , government agencies, or a combination of these. Since prices to move power are based on congestion in transmission line networks, utilities try to charge customers more to use power during peak usage demand periods. This is accomplished by installing time of use meters to recover wheeling costs. No footnotes date June 2010 The Lancashire Electric Power Company was one of the largest private electricity companies in the UK. It was established by Act of Parliament in 1900. History Its original power station was the Radcliffe Power Station which was opened by the Frederick Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby Earl of Derby on 9 October 1905. This had to 1,500  kW turbo sets manufactured by British Thomson Houston , generated at 10 kV the first power station in the UK to transmit by bare electric conductors at 10kV . The first customer was the Acme Spinning Company in Pendlebury which with 75,000 Spindle textiles spindles was the first Cotton mill cotton spinning mill in Lancashire to be designed for powering by electricity. The plant was soon duplicated with six boilers feeding four 1,500  kW sets. The equipment was so simple that the whole power station could be operated by a shift of six or seven men. It reached full capacity in December 1922 with ten sets giving 42,375  kW. A second power station at Padiham Power Station Padiham opened in 1926 with a capacity of 30,625  kW and a third at Kearsley Power Station Kearsley in November 1929 with eventually two 32,000  kW and two 51,600  kW sets. Kearsley was able to burn waste material from local factories. The company was nationalised in 1948 into the North Western Electricity Board NWEB when the total capacity was 284,750  kW. Radcliffe Power Station closed in 1959, Kearsley in 1981. Padiham was replaced by a new power station on an adjacent site in the late 1950s Padiham B but finally closed in 1993.
