Electricalphenomena are commonplace and unusual events that can be observed which illuminate the principles of the physics of electricity and are explained by them. Electricalphenomena are a somewhat arbitrary division of electromagnetic phenomenon electromagnetic phenomena . Some examples are Biefeld Brown effect &mdash The effect is more widely referred to as electrohydrodynamics EHD or sometimes electro fluid dynamics, a counterpart to the well known magneto hydrodynamics. Contact electrification &mdash The phenomenon of electrification by contact. When two objects were touched together, sometimes the objects became spontaneously charged ne negative charge, one positive charge . Direct Current &mdash old Galvanic Current or continuous current The continuous flow of electricity through a conductor such as a wire from high to low potential. Electroluminescence &mdash The phenomenon where a material emits light in response to an electric current passed through it, or to a strong electric field. Electrical conduction &mdash The movement of electrically charged particles through transmission medium. Electric shock &mdash Physiological reaction of a biological organism to the passage of electric current through its body. Ferroelectric effect &mdash The phenomenon whereby certain ionic crystals may exhibit a spontaneous dipole moment. Electroacoustic phenomena arise when ultrasound propagates through a fluid containing ions . The associated particle motion generates electric signals because ions have electric charge . This coupling between ultrasound and electric field is called electroacoustic phenomena. Fluid might be a simple Newtonian liquid , or complex heterogeneous Dispersion chemistry dispersion , emulsion or even a porous body. There are several different electroacoustic effects depending on the nature of the fluid. Ion Vibration Current Potential IVI , an electric signal that arises when an acoustic wave propagates through a Homogeneous chemistry homogeneous fluid. Streaming Vibration Current Potential SVI , an electric signal that arises when an acoustic wave propagates through a porous body in which the pores are filled with fluid. Colloid Vibration Current Potential CVI , an electric signal that arises when ultrasound propagates through a heterogeneous fluid, such as a Dispersion chemistry dispersion or emulsion . Electric Sonic Amplitude ESA , the inverse of CVI effect, in which an acoustic field arises when an electric field propagates through a heterogeneous fluids. In physics , critical phenomena is the collective name associated with the physics of critical point thermodynamics critical point s. Critical phenomena include scaling relations among different quantities, power law divergences of some quantities such as the magnetic susceptibility in the ferromagnetism ferromagnetic phase transition described by critical exponent s, universality dynamical systems universality , fractal behaviour, ergodicity breaking. Critical phenomena take place in second order phase transition , although not exclusively. Electrokinetic phenomena are a family of several different effects that occur in heterogeneous fluids or in porous bodies filled with fluid. The term heterogeneous here means a fluid containing particles. Particles can be solid , liquid or gas bubbles with sizes on the scale of a micrometre micrometer or nanometer . There is a common source of all these effects the so called double layer interfacial interfacial double layer of charges. Influence of an external force on the diffuse layer generates tangential motion of a fluid with respect to an adjacent charged surface. This force might be electric , pressure gradient , concentration gradient , gravity . In addition, the moving phase might be either continuous fluid or dispersed phase . Various combinations of the driving force and moving phase determine various electrokinetic effects. Following Fundamentals of Interface and Colloid Science by Lyklema 1995 , the complete family of electrokinetic phenomena includes electrophoresis , as motion of particles under influence of electric field electro osmosis , as motion of liquid in porous body under influence of electric field diffusiophoresis , as motion of particles under influence of a chemical potential gradient capillary osmosis , as motion of liquid in porous body under influence of the chemical potential gradient sedimentation potential , as electric field generated by sedimenting colloid particles streaming potential current , as either electric potential or current generated by fluid moving through porous body, or relative to flat surface colloid vibration current , as electric current generated by particles moving in fluid under influence of ultrasound electric sonic ... descriptions of electrokinetic phenomena in many books on colloid and interface science ref ..., B.V. 1974 Electrokinetic Phenomena , J. In particular, astronomical ephemeris ephemerides use secular to label the longest lasting or non oscillatory perturbations in the motion of planets, as opposed to periodic perturbations which exhibit repetition over the course of a time frame of interest. Electrical Injury generally refers to material damage caused by electrical forces. This term is commonly used in medicine in reference to harmful effects of electric field exposure. The nature of the injury depends on the freguency and amplitude of the electric field, the duration of exposure, and the nature of the tissue involved. In most cases of harmful electric field exposure, nerve and muscle are most vulnerable to injury. Electrical shock may or may not produce electrical injury. Many static electrical shocks, such as that experienced when reaching for a door knob after walking across a carpet on a dry day, do not. Another example of electrical shocks not producing direct electrical injury is the application of electrical stun guns. These devices electrically stimulate nerve fibers producing severe pain and loss of neuromuscular control but the electrical current they deliver to the body does not usually cause direct electrical damage to tissues. Almost everyone has once in his or her lifetime been shocked by electricity. The fear reflex generated by the bad experience of pain usually prevents us from further tampering with electricity. However, no matter how careful, accidents do and will happen, especially among electrical workers who have to handle commercial electrical power lines everyday. Category Injuries ... more details
An electrical code is a set of regulations for electrical wiring . The intention of an electrical code is to provide standards to ensure electrical wiring systems that are safe and unlikely to produce either electric shock or Conflagration fires . Ways in which electrical codes ensure safety include ways to prevent or mitigate short circuit s, ground faults, and overheating from inadequate Electric current current carrying capacity ampacity . Appropriately rated Fuse electrical fuse s or circuit breaker s are used to interrupt a circuit loop whose ampacity is exceeded to avoid overheating of wires or other fixtures.
