Charlotte Haldane n e Franken, first married name Burghes 27 April 1894 &ndash 16 March 1969 was a United Kingdom British feminist author . Her second husband was the biologist J.B.S. Haldane . Biography Charlotte Franken was born in Sydenham , London . Her parents were Jewish immigrants, her father, Joseph, a German fur trader. In 1906 the family moved to Antwerp . She enrolled on a typing course in London . During the First World War her parents were interned but emigrated in 1915 to the United States . She married Jack Burghes in 1918 and they had a son Ronnie. In 1924 however she interviewed the biologist J.B.S. Haldane for the Daily Express and they soon became friends. She then had a scandalous divorce from her husband, before marrying Haldane in 1926. After a wartime trip to the Soviet Union , she became disillusioned with socialism , which J.B.S. still believed in, writing about it in Russian Newsreel . The Haldanes separated in 1942, divorcing in 1945. J.B.S. later married Helen Spurway . She died in 1969 of pneumonia . Archibald Richard Burdon Haldane 1900 &ndash 1982 was a Scotland Scottish social history social historian and writer . He was the son of Edith n e Nelson and William Haldane Sir William Haldane , grandson of James Alexander Haldane , and nephew of Richard Burdon Haldane, 1st Viscount Haldane . His brother was Graeme Haldane and he married Janet Macrae Simpson Smith. Like his father and uncles, he attended the Edinburgh Academy , after which he went up to Balliol College, Oxford to read history. He returned to Scotland to enter his father s legal firm and acted for a time as Fiscal to the Society of Writers to the Signet. He then became involved in the Savings Bank movement and was at one stage vice chairman of the Savings Bank Association. In 1982, he was awarded the CBE in recognition of his work for the bank. He was principally known, however, as a social historian and author, and for his seminal work on the drovers road s of Scotland. In recognition for his work in this field, he was awarded the honorary degree of D Litt from the University of Edinburgh . He published two further books in this field, New Ways through the Glens and Three centuries of Scottish posts , as well as several on his favourite pastime of trout fishing, of which he was passionately fond. Haldane Haldane is a Moon lunar Impact crater crater that is located in Mare Smythii , near the eastern limb of the Moon . The visibility of this formation is affected by libration , and even under favorable conditions it is highly foreshortened. It lies just to the west northwest of the crater Runge crater Runge , and to the east of Carrillo crater Carrillo . The interior of this floor has been flooded by lava , leaving only a low rim projecting up through the lunar mare . This rim is broken along the northwest face, leaving a gap into the interior. In the eastern half of the inner floor is a semi circular feature that is concentric with the outer wall. There is also a low central ridge offset to the east of the interior mid point.
