It helps survivors of slavery rebuild their lives after rescue from slavery, through economic empowerment , education and help reintegrating into society. It works to prevent slavery in high risk communities such as red light and refugee communities, by creating jobs for adults and through volunteer trips and donations to their shelter partners for rescue, school fees, emergency needs and reintegration. TEN imports and sells handicraft products made by survivors of slavery and persons at risk of being trafficked into slavery. The Emancipation Network, MadebySurvivors, and TEN Charities were founded by Sarah Symons and John Berger in 2005. John and Sarah are married and together have built TEN from the ground up using their personal savings and dedicated community of friends. TEN combines public outreach and education programs about human trafficking with income generating programs for survivors and high risk girls. Staff members, Ambassadors and volunteers organize awareness events across the country to educate people about human trafficking and sell the Made by Survivors products. Sarah was inspired to start TEN after viewing The Day My God Died, a film about sex trafficking in Nepal and India. The Genius of Universal Emancipation was an abolitionist newspaper from Mount Pleasant, Ohio run by Benjamin Lundy . Elihu Embree established the Manumission Intelligencier in 1819 which became The Emancipator in 1820 . In 1821 the paper was bought by Benjamin Lundy and renamed Genius of Universal Emancipation , running from 1821 to 1839 under Lundy s editorship. Lundy s contributions reflected his Quaker views, condemning slavery on moral and religious grounds but advocating gradual emancipation and the removal of Negro es from the United States . Lundy moved the paper to Jonesborough, Tennessee Jonesboro, Tennessee in 1823 , and then established himself in Baltimore, Maryland in 1824 , where most of the paper s run would be published. In 1829 , Lundy recruited the young William Lloyd Garrison to join him in Baltimore, Maryland and help him edit the paper. Garrison s experience as a printer and newspaper editor allowed him to revamp the layout of the paper and free Lundy to spend more time traveling as an antislavery speaker. Garrison, who had been converted to abolitionism by one of Lundy s northern speaking tours, initially shared Lundy s gradualist views, but, while working for the Genius , he became convinced of the need to demand immediate and complete emancipation. Lundy and Garrison continued to work together on the paper in spite of their differing views, agreeing simply to sign their editorials to indicate who had written it. The Labour Emancipation League was a socialist organisation in London . The origins of the league lay in the split of the Stratford, London Stratford Dialectical and Radical Club around Ambrose Barker from the National Secular Society in 1880. In 1881, the Club was forced to abandon its activities, although it remained in existence as the Homerton Socialist Society. Barker and Tom Lemon from the Society joined with Joe Lane socialist Joe Lane and Frank Kitz to hold regular public meetings in Mile End . These proved a success, and they formed the Labour Emancipation League to continue this work. The first secretary, Aaron Moseley , soon resigned and was replaced by Lane. The League was influenced by Marxism , Chartism and Proudhon .
