  1. Encyclopedia of the Philosophical Sciences

Hegelianism The Encyclopedia of the Philosophical Sciences in German Enzyclop die der philosophischen Wissenschaften im Grundrisse 1817 is a systematic work by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel in which an abbreviated version of his earlier Science of Logic was followed by the articulation of the Philosophy of Nature and the Philosophy of Spirit also translated as Philosophy of Mind . The work describes the pattern of the Idea as manifesting itself in dialectic al reasoning. While some believe that the philosophy of nature and mind are applications of the logic, this is a misunderstanding. The purpose of the Encyclopedia is descriptive to describe how Geist Spirit or Mind develops itself and not to apply the dialectical method to all areas of epistemology human knowledge , but Spirit is in process of growing, like a seed growing into a mature tree it passes through stages. The first stage of Spirit s development is described in the Logic. Thus the Logic presents the categories of thought as they are in themselves they are the minimal conditions for thinking anything at all, the conceptions that run in the background of all our thinking. These logical categories turn out to be none other than Geist itself. In order to get at what a thing is , we must think about it. No amount of observing will bring us to the essence of things. Thinking and being are equivalent, and so logic and metaphysics .... DEFAULTSORT Encyclopedia Of The Philosophical Sciences Category 1817 books Category Oxford University ... 1. Philosophical movement

Unreferenced date December 2009 A philosophical movement is either the appearance or increased popularity of a specific school of philosophy , or a fairly broad but identifiable sea change in philosophical thought on a particular subject. Major philosophical movements are often characterized with reference to the nation , language , or historical era in which they arose. Talk of a philosophical movement can often function as a shorthand for talk of the views of a great number of different philosopher s and others associated with philosophy, such as historians, artists, scientists and political figures . On the other hand, most philosophical movements in history consisted in a great number of individual thinkers who disagreed in various ways it is often inaccurate and something of a caricature to treat any movement as consisting in followers of uniform opinion. 1. Philosophical sin

unreferenced date April 2012 The existence of philosophical sin was a debate waged in the Roman Catholic Church in the late seventeenth century. A philosophical sin is a morally bad act which violates the natural order of reason, not the divine law. The idea of philosophical sin, as opposed to sin theological sin , was advocated by those who wished to construct a moral system independent of God. Those who believed in God and divine law yet contended for a distinction between philosophical and theological sin maintained that there are morally bad acts that, while violating the order of reason, are not offensive to God. They believed that the sinner can be ignorant of the existence of God and that, without the knowledge or consideration of God, it is impossible to offend him. This doctrine of philosophical sin was censured as scandalous, temerarious, and erroneous by Pope Alexander VIII in 1690 in his condemnation of the following proposition Philosophical or moral sin is a human act not in agreement with rational nature and right reason, theological and mortal sin is a free transgression of the Divine law. However grievous it may be, philosophical sin in one who is either ignorant of God or does not actually think of God, is indeed a grievous sin, but not an offense to God, nor a mortal sin dissolving friendship with God, nor worthy of eternal punishment. The Roman Catholic Church maintains the contrary view that sin can be offensive to God even if the sinner either does not know or does not consider God. catholic Category Catholic doctrines fr P ch s philosophique et th ologique ...   more details
